I want to celebrate the world of Golden Age comic book art. Let's make a screen printed poster.

THE PROJECT

"The Great Vintage Comic Book Poster" is a project that examines the lost artwork of public domain comic books and puts these gorgeous images back on display as screen printed posters.

Public domain is a term that is used to describe intellectual property that does not have copyright restrictions attached to it. This may include books, movies, music, artwork, newspapers, etc...

THE POSTER

This brings me to my first proposed project. I want to create a professionally screen printed poster featuring an image from a public domain comic book called "BLACK CAT COMICS". This comic was published by Harvey Comics back in 1946. The property's copyright was never renewed and it eventually fell into the public domain.

6 color 18"x24" screen printed poster on 100lb paper

The final poster will look like the image above. This was the cover art used for Black Cat Comics #1 in 1946. All of the imperfections and grime will be eliminated, so that the color and graphics will be bright and vibrant when it is printed. The image will be sharp and impressive. The poster will stay as close to these colors as possible.

The poster will be professionally screen printed, a technique in which each color is printed seperately on the page by pulling ink through a mesh screen with a squeegee. This is an excellent method of printing posters and will create a stunning result.

This "Black Cat" poster will be limited only to the amount of $25 reward backers that this project receives. If 52 people back this reward, then 52 posters will be printed. If 107 people back this reward, then 107 posters will be printed. Each poster will be numbered and dated on the back.

THE FUTURE

Depending on the outcome of this project, I would like to continue creating more posters featuring other images from the public domain. I would prefer to print future posters in limited editions.

Feedback from the community will be instrumental in choosing future images to print. I encourage you to contact me throughout this campaign at publicposters@gmail.com and ask questions. I pledge to provide updates throughout this kickstarter process on a weekly basis.

Thank you for your consideration. I truly do believe that the artwork of this lost era should be celebrated and displayed. I'm hopeful that kickstarter can provide us with the opportunity to discover and create together.
