A voluptuous lonely janitor with magical qualities begins to crush on the drama teacher at the preschool she cleans.
ELEANOR RIGBY is a fantasy fairy tale with a darker edge in the tradition of
Let the Right one in, Ricky and Pan’s Labyrinth. When a voluptuous shy girl with an obsession for romance novels and fairies begins to crush on her next-door neighbor she must overcome her fear of rejection long enough to tell him how she feels.
The reality of the world of Eleanor Rigby is comedic, even more so than in Let the Right one in and Pan’s Labyrinth – obviously, these are not comedies! The harsh real look of these two movies are similar not only in the look of Eleanor Rigby but also in the way fantastical things happen in those films.
Theme:
Eleanor Rigby is about risk: The courage to risk the unknown (love in the case of
Eleanor), to risk change, to risk your heart. The theme can be expressed as:
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Carpe Diem – ‘Seize the day.’
