A new sourcebook for the Twilight Sector Science Fiction RPG Setting from Terra/Sol Games.
Six Guns Lasers is the third book in Terra/Sol Games line of Six Gun books for our Twilight Sector campaign setting. Like the other two books in the line, Six Guns Gauss Weapons and Six Guns Rescue Organizations, this book will detail a critical element within the Twilight Sector setting. Lasers and laser weapons are an iconic element of science fiction, and we intend to lovingly cover them in as much detail as we can. It will be written using the Mongoose Traveller rules system, but it is easily adaptable to any rules set.
The book will be digest-sized. We will create both PDF and softcover versions which will be somewhere around 50 pages. We do have plans to extend the length of the book if we hit our stretch goals.
Like all the products that Terra/Sol Games produces, Six Guns Lasers helps to tell the story of the Twilight Sector, the science fiction setting that serves as the backdrop for all of our products. Twilight Sector is a rich and detailed setting where any number of projects can take place, all contributing to the overall experience.
With this project, we are excited to join the Kickstarter community. We believe that crowdfunding is the future, especially for small publishers like ourselves. It provides a direct connection between content creators and fans like you, ensuring that what we create is in tune with what you want. Update #1
The Developer's Forum is now ready to roll for all backers of Six Guns Lasers. The Forum is where we'll be discussing the project and taking your ideas on making it even better. This is our way of ensuring that backers of the project get what they want from the final product. It should be a lot of fun!
Project Budget
It has been suggested to me that I should put the project budget here in the project description so that backers can see exactly what their money is going for. I think that's a pretty good idea. If you're putting up money to back the project you have a right to know how that money is going to be spent. So below I've listed out the line items in our budget just like I did when I decided how much to set this Kickstarter for.
Writing - $570. If you want to hire the best authors in the Traveller RPG realm like Martin Dougherty and John Lees then you have to pay for it.
Art - $800. Terra/Sol has become known for its art and we want this project to follow in that tradition.
Editing - $600. Many small press RPG publishers skip this step to their determent. This line item will pay for our line editors work in laying out the product and content editing to make sure we're not trampling on Twilight Sector cannon. Also within this will be the work of the lovely and talented Renee Ritchie to make sure we don't do so much damage to the english language that it can't recover from it.
Printing - $478.40. We've got to print the books for our backers and then mail the books to them!
Me - $251.70. I thought after 3 and a half years I deserved to see my first paycheck ; ). Hey I've got a daughter in college right now!
In all seriousness, Kickstarter provides us the means to create products like Six Guns Lasers and not do it solely from our own pockets. For the last three and a half years we've put out 26 products. Some have come close to breaking even some have not. What Kickstarter allows us to do is to keep putting out the high quality of products we have become known for while not going broke doing it. If we're going down the wrong path I figure Kickstarter will let us know that pretty quickly as well.
