I am releasing my 1995 album with my NYC band "The Christopher Alpiar Quartet", its time to pre-order and support Jazz!
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for visiting my Kickstarter page here! I am trying to raise $2000.00 to press some CD's of my NYC band The Christopher Alpiar Quartet on an album we recorded and never released in the mid 90s "The Jazz Expression".
My band is a free Jazz group of New York contemporary Jazz musicians: Myself on Tenor Saxophone; Pete Rende on Piano; Matt Pavolka on Upright Bass; and Bob Meyer on Drums. We played a lot together during this time and the band sounds just fantastic! The music on this album "The Jazz Expression" is all original material that I wrote specifically for this band, and tunes we used to play at our regular gig in Chelsea at "The Angry Squire" I thought the tapes were lost until I found some line mixes on DAT earlier this year that I had stowed away years ago. They are just 2 track masters of stuff we did live at Right Track Studios that were recorded by Jay Militscher.
The music is filled with the spirit of John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman, Joe Henderson, and other of my favorite masters of the contemporary and free Jazz genres. But the band is very original and explores many unique ideas through the art of improvisation. It can be super agressive and exploratory and in the next song, very mellow and tender. Im certain that every Jazz lover will connect with our music and enjoy themselves immensely with this recording. Here are a couple of short clips that I put up on SoundCloud to offer my fans a taste of what's in store for everyone in this upcoming album release.
I am currently an Atlanta based saxophonist, composer, arranger and producer with my own studio at the amazing 800 East complex in Old Fourth Ward part of Atlanta. I handled every aspect of the production in house with help of some amazing professionals, Sean McLeroy who helped prepare the album and Larry Anthony of COS Mastering who mastered the original files for release. The album is finished and ready! I just need some money to be able to press some real CD's and have them ready to send you!
