Update #3: "Adventures In Being (small)" at 100 YEARS (VERSION #4, BOSTON 2012)
Tomorrow night is the opening of 100 Years (version #4 Boston, 2012) at Boston University's Art Gallery (see official press release below). Bob Raymond of Mobius, is exhibiting a collection of photographs he's taken of performance art pieces over the years. I am thrilled that an image from one of my Adventures made the cut! Here is a video from the Adventure that Bob photographed.
If you are in Boston come to the opening January 19th from 6-8pm at 855 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA. There will be live performances by selected Mobius Artist Group members, including Daniel S. DeLuca, Adventures in Being (small)'s official photographer/videographer! Check out other events organized around this highly anticipated exhibition.
Thanks again for your support with my project!

100 Years (version #4 Boston, 2012) is an essential introduction to the history of performance art that has directly shaped the history of twentieth-century art, and that continues to be central to the art and ideas of the first decade of the twenty-first. The exhibition provides a vital timeline of this history from 1909's Futurist Manifesto to the present. Reprints of Futurist and Dada manifestos are seen side by side with photographs of Oskar Schlemmer's Triadic Ballet, films of Francis Picabia's Relache, and Mary Wigman's Hexentanz, while unforgettable films (translated to video) by Yves Klein, Carolee Schneemann, Anna Halprin, Yoko Ono, Trisha Brown, and yayoi Kusama lead viewers chronologically through material by Vito Acconci, Ana Mendieta, Matthew Barney, Tania Bruguera, Adrian Piper, and Michael Smith, all the way up to the present day, with material by Allora & Calzadilla, Sigalit Landau, and Ryan Trecartin. With over 200 works including film, photography, documents, and audio 100 Years presents a wealth of information that is largely unknown and is inteneded as an archive for students, scholars, and enthusiasts of the history of performance art.

Update #2: Adventures in Being (small) Top 5 of 2011
New Years is a time when I can indulge in my love of lists. I rattle off my list of favorites from the year: movies, albums, meals, moments...I could make lists of all the lists I love to make! In the spirit of the season, here is my Top 5 "Adventures" of 2011!
1. "Tribute" by Philip Fryer
I love when people learn about this project, fit their own bodies into small spaces and tell me about it. Early in 2011, my collaborator, Philip Fryer took a trip to the West Coast and did a "Tribute" to my project by fitting himself into a bridge in the woods. It was a great moment getting this picture via text message.
2. "Red Telephone"
I was invited to roam around fitting myself into spaces in Davis Square in Somerville, MA for the annual art festival, Artbeat. 2011's theme was "Red," so I only fit myself into red spaces. I had just returned from an epic hiking/camping trip in the White Mountains in New Hampshire days before Artbeat. I was happy to see the result of my newly-aquired climbing skills when I summited this red telephone.
3. "Precious Cart"
This cart was found locked to a sign in a fairly desolate neighborhood in Boston. The accumulated rust told me that the cart had been there for a long time. Whoever the cart belonged to had made a metal lid for it. It was attached with wire that had been wrapped with care. It was a unique object found on an exceptionally beautiful September day.
4. "Invasion"
This was not a challenging adventure. In fact, it was rather boring. The picture was taken in a rush on a camera phone. What makes this special is that I did this adventure while my parents were visiting. The confused look on their faces and the laughter that follows when I fit myself into unexpected spaces never gets old.
5."Chains and Rain"
In February, I was invited to participate in Infiltrate, a performance event organized in conjunction with the Fountain Art Fair in NYC by Grace Exhibition Space. The fair took place on Manhattan's historic lightship "The Frying Pan" on pier 66. I found this amazing spool of chain to I crawled into. After settling in with the cold metal, It started to drizzle. As the boat gently rocked back and forth, passersby kept mistaking me for a sculpture. A parent even encouraged their toddler to "Go touch it, it's not real". When I felt a tiny finger poke my hand, I waved. This had the potential to be a disaster, but fortunately the child giggled.
