What is this project about?

Hello. My name is Craig Fox. My project is about Cleveland, Ohio: Then and Now. Cleveland, Ohio is a very historic city. It was an industrial hub in the early 1900's. History abounds here. It includes fascinating period architecture, the first arc lightbulb that lit Public Square, and the final resting place of President James Garfield. In doing research about Cleveland, Ohio I've found that a very large part of the history that made the city great, is still available to be seen by future generations. Regretfully, some has been lost to time and decay. 

What will I accomplish?

I will produce a book in which I'll document, in pictures, the way the city used to look in the early 1900's, and the way it appears today. I'll be traveling all over Cleveland, Ohio and Cuyahoga County. With the aid of the National Registry of Historic Places, I'll identify historical landmarks and buildings that are still standing. I'll then research the records at Case Western Historical Society, as well as the Cleveland Public Library to obtain historical photos and info pertaining to these places. Lastly, I'll produce a book including info and a present day photo, from as close an angle to the original that I can get of these places and landmarks. This will show how time has affected Cleveland.

What is the funding for?

The funding will go to travel expenses, the printing costs of the rewards photos, the printing costs of thebook, the research costs, and the shipping costs associated with the rewards. Should the funding exceed my goal, I'll have a headstart on my next project.

Why fund this project?

My hope is that you people out there enjoy history as much as I do, and will be willing to fund this project. Historical landmarks in this country are quickly disappearing. It is the opinion of some, that these buildings and hallowed grounds are just old, in disrepair, and unworthy of being kept up. Soon, a great deal of our connections to our past, and that of our ancestors will be lost to *progress*. We owe it to the generations to come, to preserve it for them, even if only in photos.
