JollyGrim is a free-to-play on-line collectible card game that takes ideas from genres such as real-time strategy and tactical role-playing games. We want to build an environment that encourages players to outwit each other. Unlike many other card games, the combat in JollyGrim takes place completely in real-time. This allows players to remain engaged in the action without the need to wait for your opponent to take their turn. Another aspect that makes JollyGrim unique is the lack of any random factors which may affect your success in battle. Rather than relying on luck being in your favor, your victory is determined by your strategy and quick-thinking. The game is focused on player-versus-player (PvP) matches as of right now, but there are many more versus, cooperative, and single player modes planned for future release.
In all honesty, JollyGrim has so much to it that it is difficult to explain in words. Viewing the above video is a great way to get a glimpse of what the game has to offer, or better yet, you can download the JollyGrim Open Alpha from the game's website right now!

In JollyGrim, battles take place on a 10x7 grid. Every card in the game has a unique movement and attack range. After moving, every card has a varying amount of time it must wait before it can move again. The same system applies to attacking. Also, attacking an enemy card from within its own attack range causes the enemy to counterattack. So, it's always in your best interest to avoid counterattacks. Once you have destroyed all your enemy's cards you win the match.

The cards in JollyGrim have a wide variety of unique skills. Skills have a big impact on the outcome of any battle. Many skills have their own delay in the same way cards have movement and attack delay; however, there are a large number of skills that are always active.

Push skills are great for covering long distances quickly or shoving away enemies.

Want to get a certain card closer to you? Just pull it!

Clear delay skills are useful when you need to approach quickly or get yourself out of a sticky situation.

There are many deadly status effects in JollyGrim, such as poison, which deals damage over time.

As is the standard fare in card games, the cards in JollyGrim are separated across several different rarity values. Be that as it may, unlike most other games, rarity has no bearing on how useful or powerful a card is in JollyGrim, just how unique, versatile, or even intimidating it may be. Even still, you'll definitely want to get your (digital) hands on the rarer cards to discover new game play tactics to crush your foes, but rest assured you won't be at a disadvantage without them.

The title of the game is actually the name of a legendary book which exists in the real world. Supposedly, if you read the book, you become forever trapped in the world of JollyGrim: a land which combines characters and locales from well-known (and not-so-well-known) fairytales and various mythologies from throughout history. Fancy that! There's not many games where you can form a team consisting of Little Red Riding Hood, Dracula, and The Wizard of Oz!

The game also features an episodic story-driven single player mode. The story follows a student of JollyGrim Academy named Will as he attempts to reclaim a precious school treasure that he has let get away from him. You'll meet plenty of strange characters along the way, many of whom will join Will on his quest. The story is humorous and light-hearted, but the battles will challenge your strategic-thinking skills.

The most prolific reward offered to backers are the premium booster packs. While we haven't worked out exactly how many different types of booster packs we are going to offer and how much they are going to cost, we can guarantee that these premium booster packs will be the highest-value ones made available. It will be more cost-efficient to obtain the booster packs now through Kickstarter than purchasing them after we launch.
Another reward you can obtain is the Samurai promotional card. This limited promo card will only be made available to Kickstarter backers, so don't miss out.
