Here comes the Sun!

Update #21 · May 20, 2012 · 2 comments

By the way, all of the posts today have been from Carla Jackson. I forgot to say that. Below is a recent note via Twitter from Dr. Holbrook

JC Holbrook ‏@astroholbrook: “Well it could not have been more dramatic than that! We had rain, thick clouds and...Success!”

And now in honor of the moment, George Harrison's: “Here Comes the Sun.” Doo, da, doo, doo  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGKPHFrHVVY

Go away clouds, go away!

Update #20 · May 20, 2012 · comment
JC Holbrook @astroholbrook

"The cloud cover is too thick to see the sun. The start of totality is at soon. We are waiting and hoping."

Okay, maybe this will help. This is a photo of our Justice's attempt to drive away the Tokyo clouds in his interpretation of an ancient Chinese Dragon scaring tradition. Let's hope it works so that Team #BlackSun2012 can shoot the eclipse.

Ah, Tokyo!

Update #18 · May 20, 2012 · comment

Dr. Sterling is hard at work preparing for the annular eclipse. He has so many telescopes that he had to think about it. He has been testing the telescope and in this image he is checking the alignment of first the tripod, then the finding telescope, and finally checking the tracking (clock-drive).

We have enjoyed getting to know Dr. Sterling and enjoyed learning more about Tokyo! Thus far we have experienced: a limousine bus, a city bus, a taxi. Of course the taxi was the easiest and quickest ride but it is hard to justify ten times the price of the bus. And the food! Great rice, wonderful veggie and protein combinations with tasty sauces, and Andrea has been happy with the desserts.
