Welcome to A Hawk in the Rain.
We are a collaborative project between Birmingham based Lantern Music and New York based Cassis. Due to our shared ambitions for expression and emotion to be part of the music we make, we took our name from a collection of poems by British poet, Ted Hughes.
Instead of sharing this view of a failing music world due to digital downloads, we have seen as an opportunity.
For hundreds of years music has been about communication. A way of people connecting through song, telling stories that have been past down from generation to generation. A way of someone communicating their thoughts and feelings.
With the digital era came a new era for communication.
Through use of the internet, we have been able to write together two sets of songs with thousands of miles separating us. Something that could have never happened before.
We then met, once in Berlin, on a farm, and once in Leeds, in the crypt of an 18th century church. There we recorded, making music purely because we wanted to create something special.

Why we need you!
So far this project has been entirely self funded by the group. We have managed to write and record both EPs and have finished mixing the first one. This is being released on the 26th of March from our bandcamp page. We have also managed to have the gorgeous limited edition cd covers, specially designed and hand screen printed by artist Nicola Kane.

However!
We have run out of money. So in order to get the 2nd EP mixed and mastered, plus the cd releases finished, printed and made up, we need your help!
How your money will be spent....
To finish this project we need to raise another $2150/£1320.
This breaks down in to.....
$980/£600 for the mixing/mastering of the 2nd EP.
$490/£300 for the pressing of the cds.
$490/£300 for the materials and printing/making of the rest of the artwork.
$190/£120 processing costs from Kickstarter and Amazon payments (who process all of it!)
Also, most of the work on this project that we haven't been able to do ourselves has been done either very cheaply or as favours by good friends of ours. So anything extra made over the amount needed will enable us to throw some appreciation their way too! :)
