Salaam Aleikum ... I am a backpacking traveler from New Zealand and have been to your amazing country, Yemen (including Sana'a, for a month in 2005), and have traveled much of the Islamic world, and this project is just what the world needs to provide greater understanding, for all.

I have only discovered you - and this website - with 59 hours to go but will happily offer some $.

      Regards - from Tai'an, China.

I hope that with the money over your goal that you'll be able to get out of NYC and document a few other parts of the US. NYC is unique with its own plusses and minuses, but I suspect just seeing the lives of people in NYC will give a skewed view as to the lives of Americans (women or men). Best wishes and take care.

Your work is very beautiful and touching, and I very much look forward to seeing how your time in New York helps you to reveal American and Yemeni women's lives. Since you are already over your goal, you'll have more money to spend on photo gear!

It's soooooooooo refreshing to see a creative kickstarter project in NYC that isn't just some white privileged spoiled suburban hipster pretending to be passionate about "film making" or whatever, when they really just want free money to run around NYC recording all there white privileged spoiled suburban friends talking about the problems they don't have. We desperately need people with your REAL passion and familiarity with REAL struggle to help open our eyes to how ignorant, vain and spoiled we can be here in the states. I love the idea of this project and I love your attitude. Congratulations on this achievement and good luck. You deserve it more than a lot of people here. I cant wait to seeing the finished project!

      as.sallamu alaykum ukhti,

well I hope you get the money you need... straight up I wont donate because, as a British man who has Yemeni heritage and has only recently rediscovered that side of me I feel that there is more i could do there than to support your project in America. As an advice I would say that many of the arabs have a type of schizophrenia when they have a relationship with the west, they love the kuffar and bend over backwards to accommodate any of their demands and yet at the same time they wonder why the western governments policies towards their countries are so unbalanced. I dont have any right over you, your parents reserve this right.i hope as an advice you realise that when you go their you should walk tall and proud being fully aware that the demands of your deen equally apply in the states as elsewhere.

You should use the opportunity to take lots of pictures to show just how unfairly the women in the west hat are treated by a society that judges their appearance as them and demands they work as men whilst hold together the home. Show the indignities of the life of westerners in the west, their prison be it self constructed or imposed and spread it throughout the middle east to hopefully get across to the people there that just because they say they have a better system in the west doesn't make that so or even one that would work for Muslims whether yemeni or not.

remember in America their are over 5 million muslims, parts of Philly and New York have many Americans who became Muslims and who would love to move and live and learn their deen in our homeland. Take time to ask if you can record some of their lives.

Lastly learn from the good practices you see in the professional and educational fields in terms of organisation and systems and processes so that in some small way when you return you can show others that this is what we need to use from western culture and not the ideals and morals of decay.
find me on facebook, My qabilah is strong out in the states, if you need help perhaps their womenfolk can help

Hi Amira! Best of luck to you in the US. Just keep in mind that there are a lot of closed minded Americans..but don't let them get you down too much. We are not all like that!!

I want to welcome you to US! I hope you know that I am (and many people) happy to see all colors, religions, types of people here in the US. It makes me happy that people come here whether for short or long trips because we are all immigrants here, really.

I was born in Saudi Arabia and grew up in Yemen. As you may know these are very conservative societies. While some women are allowed to work, being female photojournalist is practically unheard of. I have had to fight all my life for my education and am the first person in my family who has graduated from university. I love photography and it is my way to communicate. I appreciate your support!
