Healing, Repairing and Transforming the World
By Jacob Wheeler
Aaron Dennis and I, who will document the Run Across Palestine through the West Bank this February, are thrilled to report that we're nearly halfway to reaching our Kickstarter goal that will help fund the trip. We're very grateful to those who have contributed and to those who have shared this page within their online community. Spreading the word is key.
We're also thrilled that several reputable U.S.-based publications have expressed interest in running our coverage. We'll post content at On the Ground Global's site, the Glen Arbor Sun webpage and videos on TheUpTake.org, of course, but Tikkun Magazine has also shown an interest in running a story by me — either in print or online — sometime after the project's completion (... and more publications may be in the works). Tikkun is a West Coast-based progressive Jewish magazine dedicated to healing and transforming the world, toward which we hope the Run Across Palestine might take a couple steps.
According to its mission, Tikkun aspires to "build bridges between religious and secular progressives by delivering a forceful critique of all forms of exploitation, oppression, and domination while nurturing an interfaith vision of a caring society — one whose institutions are reconstructed on the basis of love, generosity, nonviolence, social justice, caring for nature, and awe and wonder at the grandeur of the universe."
The magazine's editor, Rabbi Michael Lerner (I've been a longtime fan), is the best-selling author of The Left Hand of God, which makes the case for why peace activists must be BOTH pro-Israel and pro-Palestine. Lerner "argues that a fundamental transformation in consciousness is needed for any political compromise to work. He shows how we in the West can help shape a global transformation in consciousness (and changes in foreign and domestic policies) that are needed to provide the security, justice, and mutual compassion necessary for a lasting peace."
