A former speed demon rebuilds his life as he starts to restore and race the prized car of his wild youth
See a message from the filmmakers and
a "Sneak Peek" of our film in the video above.
This Kickstarter campaign is incredibly important to our film. We need your help right now because Mike is rebuilding his car, and we want to be there to film this amazing restoration and transformation. Not just the Mustang’s but Mike’s, too.
Your support will help us do that and allow us to finish our film.
So on behalf of my fellow filmmakers, Producer George Wieser and Executive Producer Josh Levin, I’d like to thank you for considering our project. Take a look at our video and at the cool rewards, and I hope that you find our film worthy of your support. With thanks and fond regards,
Christina Eliopoulos, Director, Demon on Wheels

DEMON ON WHEELS
is the story of a rugged Catskill Mountains man, an incredibly fast car, and the long, rough ride toward an impossible dream. Mike Ondish — daredevil, bootlegger, inventor and master mechanic --- drove the Demon, a one-of-a-kind 1968 Mustang, custom-modified by Le Mans Champion and automotive legend Carroll Shelby. Mike hopped the Demon up to 863 horsepower on the rear wheel and fed her an elixir of gasoline, naphthalene and home-brewed grain alcohol. He was wanted by State Troopers in two counties for racing and rum-running through the sleepy Catskill Mountains hamlets at 170 mph. He chased death on the back roads, tempting heaven and raising hell. Until one day, he put the car in hiding. It was 1975.
Thirty years later, Mike is still in Margaretville, and working hard to make ends meet. One day, a strange feeling comes over him. The Mustang — that talisman from his youth, from carefree and happier times — seemed to be beckoning him. Mike now vows to rebuild and restore his car and race her on a championship track. His lifelong friends and neighbors in town pledge their help and rally around him. Even Mike’s former nemesis, retired State Trooper Glen George, now vows to lend a hand. Mike will overcome incredible odds, sacrifice his life’s savings and his business on his quest to restore the Demon. More importantly, Mike restores himself, finding his youthful vigor, and a sense of peace and optimism. He rediscovers his heritage as a Choctaw Indian, and seeks out tribal elders to learn more about his forebears. He in turn, inspires his community, giving everyone a sense of pride, renewal and hopefulness.
WHAT THE MONEY IS FOR
We need to raise $5,000 to film for one week up in the Catskill Mountains as our hero, Mike Ondish, rebuilds the Demon, bolt by bolt. This is a crucial point in Mike's life, and in his story, and we need to have a team there to document it. We can't make a film about Mike rebuilding the car and not show him rebuilding the car! We will film as Mike's childhood running buddies reconvene in the garage to help him out. We will also capture how the town rallies around Mike's endeavor, holding a square dance fundraiser to help him out. Specifically, we need funding for camera, microphone, lighting and other equipment; a small crack team of sound, camera and lighting technicians; and food and shelter for the team during our five-day shoot. The more we raise, the more we can shoot!
WHAT'S THE PLAN FOR THE FILM?
We plan on taking DEMON ON WHEELS out to festivals, veterans groups, rural communities and the huge number of auto enthusiast communities across the country. Then, we hope to have DEMON air on a great network like ESPN, Speed Channel, Velocity or Fox Sports. Finally, we hope this film travels all over the world!
AND JUST IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING....
Is my pledge amount publicly displayed?
No. Only you and the project manager will be able to see your pledge amount.
Can we exceed the goal?
Yes! Exceeding the goal would help us continue filming and finish the film in time for important festivals in the spring.
Can I increase my pledge once I've made it?
Yes! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.
What happens if the money isn't raised in time?
If our goal isn’t met before the deadline, we don't receive any of the pledges. Your credit or debit card will not be charged.
If I donate, when do I get my incentive?
All incentives, big and small, will only happen if our goal is met. All of the rewards will be mailed out about 30 days after the conclusion of the campaign.
