Enter the brutal world of the robotic gladiator arena, do you dare try to escape?

Welcome to my Comic Kickstarter! To start, I'd like to show my gratefulness for sites like kickstarter, what a great way to get projects going!

What's the basic premise of this comic?

The setting is Biostar 1138. an artificial planet capable of sustaining life. When Earth was abandoned due to world wars, virus outbreaks, genocide, and environmental collapse, the human population needed somewhere else to go. While many populations went their separate ways, many imigrated to this strange new planet. Among the biggest group of immigrants was the Russians. Although it took some adjusting, humans were quickly accepted into 1138's population. Biostar 1138, especially evident in it's biggest continental sector Drayen, is home to a variety of different alien cultures. Among the biggest of these traditions, and soon to be enjoyed by humans as well, is the highly popular and equally brutal Robotic Gladiator Arena. WHich is where the story begins and revolves around.

What happens when a cyborg built with human instinct and judgement is suddenly thrust into this violent world?

Without giving too much away, a highly innovative robot is purchased by a wealthy mogul, who then uses him in the violent pastime of Robot Fighting. Like the traditional Gladiator games of the ancient past, these games are fought by slaves, and to the death. Along the way, many interesting characters are met, including but not limited to sleazy assistants, cyborg shrimp, evil scientists, and slave abolitionists. How long will one robot last before getting destroyed, or before thoughts of a better life weigh in on his mind? How long before that Final Round?

What's this kickstarter funding exactly?

I plan to pitch this comic idea to several companies, including Dark Horse, IDW, Image, Oni, Boom!, Red5 and possibly others. Hopefully, they'll be competing to get me!

I'm planning on putting together "Pitch Packages" to send to the prospective publishers. These Packages will be Metal Boxes with the comic logo possibly burned, embossed, or silk screened on the top. Contained in these metal boxes will be:

  • A Copy of the finished comic, or least partially finished. Possibly finished scenes. Hopefully though, I hope to send in my comic completely finished to give the publishers more incentive to pick it up.
  • If the comic isn't completely finished, I will include pages of roughed out storyboards.
  • A press-release type sheet, gott figure this one out more.
  • Copies of all Character model sheets and turnarounds.
  • A tyvek wallet with some kind of motif that ties in with my project.
  • The wallet will contain, among my business card, little character bios, the size of trading or playing cards.
  • Blueprints of the Arena.
  • Final Script.

In addition to these costs, I will obviously have costs for supplies, like if I decide to draw the whole comic on comic boards, I'll need inking pens, and so on.

In closing, just a bit of elaboration on the prizes.

I'm still a bit unclear as to what prizes I should give out. I have some good solid options, but others I'm not too sure about. I would love to offer backers a digital copy of the completed comic as a prize, but I don't know whether that would conflict with a Publisher if I get picked up by them.

Thanks kickstarter and backers, hope to get a good project going, and hope everyone likes what I'm doing!
