What Is Midwest Underground

Midwest Underground is a web series that combines live musical performances with comedy, short films, animations and other viewer submitted media. The show is unique in the fact that for each episode we film two bands live in front of a small audience, capturing the midwest "house-show" vibe. Although we keep a strong emphasis on the happenings of the midwest and more specifically Bloomington, we do feature bands and art from all across the country and even the world. Based in Bloomington, IN, home of Indiana University, the show finds itself trying to keep up with showcasing the amazing talent that this town, and the rest of the midwest have to offer. The main purpose of this show is to tap into Bloomington's underground music scene, and give these bands and artists a central location to show off there work. So often when people are not working together, their art gets lost in the sea of the internet, or never makes it past their fans and friends.  It is our aim to provide a place where people can discover new artists, and these artists can share fans, creating something much larger than they could have created on their own.

The Bands do. Our end goal would be to provide every band that performs on Midwest Underground with access to a video EP page like the ones below as well as a digital download of there live performance.

Concerns / Spreading the word

Our main concern with Midwest Underground is to get as many eyes on it as we can.  We need it to spread.  If it spreads, so will the featured artists. It is our goal to provide an outlet for bands and artists to showcase their talents to a large community of other emerging artists and fans.  To do this, we will need to hire someone to take care of our advertising and promotion for the next 5 to 6 months.  This is where half of our funds will be going.  They will be going to the furthering of our blossoming art community to far beyond the Midwest.  After this time is up, we plan to have a much firmer grasp on our marketing and promotional strategies, and hopefully have some money to pay for the ever mounting costs that come with trying to make a quality show.

Making it all happen   

The other half of this money will be spent on computing power.  Currently all of our episodes have been recorded, edited, and mixed on two laptops that can barely handle the enormous files that accumulate during the creation of any given episode.  We simply cannot afford to keep creating the show at the rate we are currently moving.  We have to be able to provide content frequently and constantly to keep people coming back to our site.  The only way we can increase our output speed is by increasing our computer power.

With these two major improvements we can propel Midwest Underground to the next level, and get this community of artists recognized on a national, possibly even a global level.  And the best part is that you can be a part of this community!
