GRAND OPENING

Update #14 · Oct 3, 2011 · comment

Hello, My Dear Backers

I am so excited to announce to you all that finally my Grand Opening is set to start. I would again like to thank all of you who have helped my idea turn into a dream come true. I would have never imagined actually starting my own business from scratch. I still can not believe it and with out the help from organizations like La Cocina and Backers like you all this would never had happened.

Well enough with the mushy stuff, lets get down to business. On Tuesday October 4th, Rain or Shine my Grand Opening is ready to be launched. You are all welcome to come. Once there you can buy some tamales of course, but most importantly be there to pick up your "coupon" for what ever I promise to give you for the amount of backing I received. There is now pressure you can come and pay me a visit whenever you like to receive your "Coupon" and meet me personally!

I can not wait to lift my business off the ground finally. I know that it is a long journey to make a successful business but like a wise man once said, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step."  I hope to see you all there

Warmly and Yours Truly~

Alicia Villanueva

Tamales: From Home to Kickstarter to Justin Hermann Plaza

Alicia’s Tamales Los Mayas, of La Cocina’s Incubator Program, to Serve Tamales 5 days/week

WHAT:           Alicia Villanueva of La Cocina’s Incubator Program will be opening San Francisco’s first every day tamale cart on Tuesday October 5th.  Alicia’s Tamales Los Mayas fuses ancient Mayan cuisine into delicious tamales made with organic maize dough and a variety of fillings. Tamales are a beautiful tradition central to celebrating important events and holidays, which is one of the reasons why Alicia’s Tamales Los Mayas wants to share these delicacies with you.

WHEN:           Tuesday 4th, October, 2011

Monday to Friday

10:00 – 4:00pm

WHERE:         One Market Street

                        Justin Hermann Plaza

WHO:             In August of 2010, Alicia Villanueva came to La Cocina with a dream: to start her own tamale cart as a means to spread her own Mexican traditions and customs. She’s been making delicious tamales for her family and friends for years and finally decided that it was time to share with the rest of the world.  Using Kickstarter for the $6,000 in capital that she needed to make this dream a reality, Alicia Villanueva brings more to the table than just food—she brings passion. As a native of the Sinaloan region of Mexico, Villanueva creates tamales and other traditional Mexican dishes from her beloved family recipes. Her specialty dish is her grandmother’s signature recipe for tamales that she “stuffs with love.”

WHY:           Villanueva’s dreams of bringing her tamales to all San Francisco residents are finally becoming a reality thanks to La Cocina, a non-profit incubator kitchen that provides technical assistance to low income women entrepreneurs and Metal Gourmet, maker of high-end mobile food carts and trailers who donated Alicia’s cart.

La Cocina is San Francisco’s food business incubator that provides affordable commercial kitchen space and technical assistance and resources to low-income entrepreneurs, with a focus on women, immigrants, and people from communities of color who are starting, launching, or growing food businesses. After one year in the Incubator Program, Villanueva is thrilled to be opening up San Francisco’s first tamale food cart.

“I am living my dream to have my food cart, a place where customers can find me,” said Villanueva. “I am committed to supporting women like me to give them the opportunity to fulfill their dreams like I am doing now.”
