Help fund my final project at Tisch! A film & dance collaboration that explores dance in Converse tennis shoes on film.
Please support my final project as an MFA candidate at NYU's Tisch School of The Arts! I am pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with the talented dancers and filmmakers in the NYU community to create a dance video to be used as a commercial spec for a popular tennis shoe. The goal is to create a visually delicious and cleverly directed advertisement that promotes Converse as not just a cool or athletic brand , but a timeless one as well. We will present this idea through film, fashion, design, and dance by working with various genres of movement and giving them a modern and refreshing edge.
The piece will be shot in February and rehearsals have already begun. We have an incredibly gifted set designer and costumer on board who are also Tisch Graduate students and all around talented & lovely humans. The project's funding will go to support camera & equipment rentals, the salary for the crew, DP, producers, and the location costs as well. It is an ambitious project that will provide the dancers, DP, and all of the creatives involved with clean, beautiful footage of their work that they can use going forward to help them secure work in the future. Moreover, during our final Tisch MFA Dance Performance in May, I'll be selecting specific portions of the film and projecting them onto the stage. The dancers from the piece will interact, live, on stage with the film through unique and choreographed movement.
Combining film, new media, and staged dance is the area that excites me the most. My background in film production, love of choreography and directing, combined with my studies as an MFA in Dance at NYU have lead me to this point and I am grateful to share my art and ideas with you. With your help, I look forward to creating a platform that presents the talented, creative minds and beautiful bodies of my Tisch classmates and friends as well. Thank you for your time.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I am qualified to handle the challenges that come up during the project based on my experience in film production in Los Angeles and my prior experience choreographing, directing, and producing films, advertisements, and music videos.
Preparation, preparation, preparation is the key! We are beginning dance rehearsals now so the dancers are ready to give it their all during the two days we have scheduled for the shoot in February so that there is space/time/energy to focus on running a safe production/shoot. We are also strategizing now on how to make our set safe! We are looking into hiring a professional rigger, for a part of the dance on swings, and are beginning the set building process now so that we have time to test it out and dance with it prior to shooting.
