My name is Nick Bertke, better known as Pogo. I’m the chap behind such movie remixes as Alice, Upular and Skynet Symphonic, and I’ve spent so much time making music that it’s now all I do with
my life. I have worked for studios including Disney Pixar and Showtime, found myself in the Wall Street Journal, performed for YouTube Play at the Guggenheim Museum, and have managed to share my music with over 12 million people on YouTube to whom I owe everything for their overwhelming love and support. It’s my ultimate goal to share my music with the world, and I’m eternally grateful
to everyone who has helped me to make this happen.
I got my t-shirt in the mail the other day, but from the comments below, others have seen/heard the tibet song. I didn't get an email or anything about it. Wondering if a spam folder ate it unintentionally. Is there any way to get a resend?
I quite like the underlying chord progression. Develops itself while listening to it more often. The editing of the video is bit to quick/fast for my taste, but still fits very well in all his work. Considering it as a contract(ual) work, I think Pogo did very well.
Thanks for being part of this successful kickstarter thing.
2 mins is fairly short. But at least he made it even after all the hassle. Would love to visit that part of the world.
I stand by my comments below about the process, but I am impressed and satisfied with the final product. To call it 'Tibet' is still a misnomer but the audio/visual is largely what I hoped it would be when I chose to donate to the project.

Just so you all will know..
He was on tour but his promotor either forgot, or did not prepare documentation for him to "earn money" in the U.S, U.S immigration put Pogo in Jail, and now he is on deportation procedure ..
I thought it was a joke, but apparently it's true.
Basically he's in (or was in) jail until deportation proceeding was done. And that does not really mean he did anything wrong.
We should wait for more, since he is probably not in a condition to produce any music let alone going back to his home at moment.....
Creativity and talent shouldn't be forced or rushed, please be more patient guys. And plus, Pogo was touring the US, sharing his talent and music to fans. If you're a true fan and admirer, you should be patient. What has happened to him recently is quite unfortunate and sad, I can't get it off my mind, please read the message boards on his website.
I do understand that the artistic process is unpredictable and complex, thus often not fitting well within deadlines. I also know that there can be uncomfortable and unproductive pressure when submitting one's self to the expectations of over a thousand folks who feel ‘invested’. Those being said, I do feel that there is a responsibility to keep folks who have committed their funds to furthering your process somewhat 'in the loop’.
To prevent folks from wondering, it might be helpful to outline a communications schedule. A statement that there will be updates on a regular basis (once a month perhaps?) will keep the negative responses based on a multitude of individual expectations to a minimum.
I personally am not asking for a specific deliverable, or a deliverable date, but I would appreciate some regular/dependable communications on the processes you are going through.
All the best on your adventures, sonic and otherwise!
Hi NIck, hope you had a wonderful time in Asia - can you post an update for us please? Still really looking forward to seeing and hearing the end result.
Given this experience and another with a band on Pledge Music, I think that I am done financing these "I promise to deliver you a project, maybe one day, maybe if I feel like working on it" internet campaigns. I am not questioning the initial burst of motivation and enthusiasm on behalf of the people starting the campaigns, but to take people's money and stop communicating is unprofessional and irresponsible.
The financial commitment here is too open-ended. There need to be checks in place to allow backers to recover their funds when a commitment such as this gets rationalized away to the back burner after the money is in hand. The Kickstarter fine print on accountability details that there is no mechanism beyond blind trust. Unbelievable. Think of how book advances are structured - without a way to recover the money put forth for a commitment there is no way to guarantee any product at all. I love your work Nick, but the fact that you may one day grace us with a Bhutan video rather than the Tibet work we backed you for would be yet another reason to have that advance returned.
I kind of wish you hadn't done a kickstarter project at all, because feeling that my money has been taken without regard to the trust I placed in you will undoubtedly color my perception of your work going forward.
Hey Nick, I'm sure you're busy and all, so could you just put in a short update on the Bhutan track?
So where is the music? I'm really disappointed in the lack of updates and communicate. Feels like we just financed a vacation rather than a music trip.
Sophie, I noticed this too.. :D maybe plans had to change since the start? I would expect that when complete that Bhutan gets proper recognition/credit in the title. (Tibet vs Tibetan culture vs Bhutan vs Bhutanese culture, what exactly is the track about?- tibetan culture in Bhutanese imagery, can that even be correct?)
I was a little confused by his "Every track will be financed by the funds generated from sales of the track before it, and by prepayments for the track next to be released. so to put it quite literally, you the listener will be the sponsor! In a nutshell, if you purchase track #001, it sends me and my crew to our next destination to produce track #002." THAT kind of sounds like we are paying for the TIbet track to fund the Bhutan trip, and his next kickstarter will be paying for the Bhutan track to fund the next remix trip... but that is not exactly correct either, is it. :P
Am I the only one annoyed with the fact that Bhutan is not actually in Tibet? I understand that going to Tibet has it's complications and conditions, and the Chinese gov't can be dangerous with regard to Tibetan culture, but continuing to market this as a trip TO Tibet when in fact it is a trip to Bhutan about Bhutanese culture and Tibetan exiles is not the same thing, and are not the conditions I was lead to believe when I pledged. I am still looking forward to the resulting track, but I think it was misleading to supporters not to clarify that Nick would not be going to Tibet, China.
So...any new updates?
@mash, I think some people are concerned because pogo seems to have moved on to new projects and stopped responding to any comments on the world-remix project.
Last update was over two months ago.
Trip ended over a month ago.
Please update with current status of project.
Thanks!
I have not received pledge perks... what's going on?
@Alex Carr: I'm pretty sure either Nick or his manager will post some info here when they start sending goodies to people who contributed to the project, just be patient, they're probably working at the studio at home right now to prepare the whole material, it will take at least a few weeks I believe if not months
When am I meant to receive the full package? I paid $115 dollars and I filled in the information required, but I haven't received anything...
You're awesome Nick. Keep up the good shit!
Will be deffo supporting your next project! Does anyone know what headphones Pogo is wearing?
Yeah I pledged $25 and I'm not sure whether I can get the USB drive due to I live in Australia. So confusing Pogo, can you let us know please.
I totally missed the opportunity to change my pledge to $15 more....didn't catch it until now. AGHHHH does that mean I can't receive the USB? :\
Gah, so frustrating. Tried to donate but the stupid Amazon Payments system won't let me change country from US and I'm in AU. Amazon's support just talked round in circles for weeks, claiming the problem is with Kickstarter - but our settings are AU there. Anyway, we tried repeatedly to donate and couldn't, so please at least accept our moral support :)
Big fan! Tried to buy an existing mp3 (S. Africa) and support Tibet together, but the 2 shopping carts don't seem to talk to each other so my first cart was dumped. As more videos and tracks are uploaded, people will probably want to purchase several at once. I'd recommend making that as easy as possible. Maybe consolidate into one system? I love the project. Good luck.
Hey man, huge fan. If you ever want to visit a mountain village in Japan, hit me up!
so excited for the final product, i have a question about the package. i will be moving out of student halls at the end of may. i was wondering when roughly the packs will be sent out and wether i should change the address?
big love.
joe.
Pogo! Brilliant work starting this idea. If you ever going to Indonesia and do a project. I suggest to Lombok island! It's less crowded than Bali but still retain the same culture. Also, better beach and still untouched! There is also other places and cultues to go in Indonesia. Such as Dayak, Toraja, Minang, Javanese, Molluca, etc.
Pogo makes the best music I have ever heard in my life, and I am looking forward to his future music releases for all of us to enjoy :D I am a proud backer, and I will back any future projects to come.
I'm happy to pledge. I think your videos are absolutely brilliant visual and musical creations. Looking forward to the results.
I'm delighted that you're going ahead and pursuing your dreams, having seen your blog mulling it over a while ago. Go, remix the world!
this is my first ever donation on the internet! :D
I've been watching the pledge race since Day 59 and about $16,000! Proud to say that I am now one of your backers. Another couple of hours working won't damper my spirits, knowing that you are going to go around the world doing what you love. Fight the good fight!
More than amazing!
One suggestion though: I believe you would gain more fans of your art and consequently more donations if you brake the limitation of language. You should put subtitles in you video and maybe translate the website to other languages too. I am Brazilian and I speak english but thats not the reality of most people of the world, starting with my family and most of my friends who loved your work but needed me to explain them everything you say on the video/website.
Great job!
Looking forward to see the Brazilian project!
Ok, I am a little confused. I want the USB and the Tee. I'm pledging the $50 plus international shipping- and I selected the $50 level. Will I still get the USB?
This is the coolest thing that I have seen in a very long time. :D
I backed you after only discovering you on YouTube today. Your work is amazing AND your from Perth (like me). Good luck with everything Nick and i can't wait for what the future holds for you ♥
Love this idea - I'm sure it's going to be phenomenal! Thank you for your inspiration and the sense of wonder and joy you bring through your music and images. :)
Loving your stuff loads, can't wait to see what you are going to give us with all the amazing culture and sounds that come out of Tibet ...
Thrilled I could contribute. You are my favourite artist! Looking forward to more countries! x
Crazy, over funded before the deadline. Nice!
Hopefully that either means an extra song/video or the surplus will go directly to the next project?
Kale phe! Travel safely and can't wait to see and hear the results. Everything you do is rather brilliant.
Right now, I'm giving myself a pat on the back for everyone who managed to donate whatever they could to Nick "Pogo" Bertke's project. I may have only donated a small amount, but it went a long way with this edition of the project. Mr. Bertke, I promise to be a backer for every trip that you plan to take. This is a project that's going beyond just making one simple song, and I want to be there every step of the way.
Vanessa, from the U.S.A.
Hello Nick,
I want to thank you for every moment your creations beam me out of the booring daily life. Not that I couldn't spice it up a bit, but I am having a plan which does not allow me to spend any money untill August. I am also going to Asia. I've been and backpacked through Thailand and Cambodia, and figured that I have to come back for a longer time. That's when I decided to work hard, limit any luxus / party / whatsoever, save up and go for a 6 month backpacking tour through Asia - also Tibet. You see, this pledge (a big one for a student like me) I just made, does not really suits my financial plan.
But I believe that you have to share what you have to make other peope share with you. Give something to get something. For me life always worked like that. I hope you have a good trip, and get more people to support you. I also really hope that you manage to not get commercial.
With this in mind I hope you have a great trip, learn more about human beeing on earth and cultures and make your wishes come true with music.
Also I am proud to be a part of this project.
You can read about me and my trips and future trips on my Photoblog (www.lukehimself.de)
Regards,
Luke from Germany
Congrats on getting your target, Can't wait to hear the song and thank you so much for creating incredible tracks.
im proud to be backing this project
I want to say Thank You to the wonderful fans Pogo has. Your responses to @rype truly represent how mature of a fanbase Pogo has. Jim, you bring up some excellent points with constructive criticism to Rype's perspective. We all respect eachother as people here, with individual sets of minds. Rype views this project in a certain way and I'm sure there are many that lean in his/her opinion of the subject at hand but they're not here. I myself am inspired by what Vicky said, "Man does not live by bread alone." What an amazing thing to say. I will keep that. And Rype, in response to this project that Pogo has set up, You are free to pair it with your own project based around filling their stomachs as Pogo is already planning on filling their hearts.
I am proud to be apart of this project. Good people surround me.
@rype Wow, I can't believe you bothered to make a Kickstarter account specifically to trash Nick's project?! Tell you what, you organize a valid attempt at improving the world in your own way and we'll decide if we want to donate/invest our money to make it happen. I'm all for donating money to make the world a better place and I believe Nick's project has the potential to bring awareness of areas of the world that many people aren't aware of in general. With the buzz he can potentially generate with his entire World Remix project, there's a potential to stimulate tourism and/or force issues affecting the areas he visits out into the more general consciousness. I very much doubt anyone is paying anything over $1 just because they want any old song made. Like me, I think they just want to get involved in something they believe makes the world a better place, even if it's by some small fraction. It's fine to have your own opinion and not feel the same but, if you're not going to get on the bus, standing outside it with a doomsday sign just makes you seem silly and clueless. Disparaging the investors as self involved "fanatics" is a blatantly ignorant and hateful thing to do. If you can't understand what positive motivations they might have then you don't need to get involved. Nobody here is telling you how to spend your time or money so I can't understand why you feel compelled to tell them what they should do with theirs. Everyone here is capable of figuring out for themselves what projects they want to help fund. Get involved or sit back and watch, it's up to you.
Dear Nick, glad you made your goal : ) Good luck!
Can someone remix @rype? Who the hell are you? I can't even hear you over the music.
@rype It's $15,000 for a track made in a foreign country which will show that country in a particular light the rest of the world has never seen. Look at the Johannesburg track. It's gorgeous, it's uplifting and it's something brand new. Of course people need to eat. This project isn't taking food out of anybody's mouth. It is creating something brand new. Man does not live by bread alone.
