Help me bring my piece Yours and Mine to Stockholm. This will be the first time I show my work abroad!
Hej, älskare och anhängare av konst! (Hello, lovers and supporters of art!)
I'm raising funds for the first presentation of my work abroad! With your help I'll be in Stockholm from August 20-24, sharing my latest work Yours and Mine in the city's annual Fringe Festival.
The Stockholm Fringe Festival (or Stoff) is an annual gathering of contemporary performance makers from around the globe in Sweden's charming capital city at the end of August. Central to the festival's curatorial vision is supporting artists who are defying traditional norms of form. Over 1300 artists from 65 countries applied to this year's festival. Only 260 have been accepted, and I have the distinction of being one of only five American artists invited to present my work. I will be presenting my latest piece Yours and Mine, and it will be the first time that I show my work outside of the United States. I'm thrilled!
Yours and Mine is a dance piece that navigates themes of death, grief, and agony through intense physicality and exhausting, durational movement. The work was developed in San Francisco with the support of the Meridian Gallery's choreographer-in-residence program. Created for a cast of ten dancers, the work consisted of three performance installations occurring simultaneously on the three floors of the gallery building over the course of one hour; audiences were invited to move through the space as they pleased. For the Stockholm Fringe Festival, I will be presenting a 45-minute version of Yours and Mine that is modulated for a theatre space. Five dancers will perform a linear piece that is sourced from the content of the original site-specific work.
I am honored and beyond excited to have the opportunity to share my work at Stoff, where I will be exposed to the work of artists from all over the world. This is an incredible chance to forge connections with fellow artists, audiences, and presenters from Europe and beyond.
I only received my acceptance to Stoff a short while ago. With the festival running from August 20-24, this leaves me less than three months to coordinate my first international tour. And it is a complicated and costly one!
I am turning to YOU, my friends, peers, mentors, and advocates in the community to help cover the travel and production costs. As you can imagine, international flights during the summer months are incredibly costly. And if I can't cover that cost, I will have to turn down this opportunity. Furthermore, I very much want to offer the performers honoraria that are fitting for the amount of time and dedication that they are offering to this project (I'm basically asking them to uproot themselves from their lives in the US for a week of hard work in Sweden!)
With your help, we can make this happen!
