About this project

We’re creating a world so big we need the Internet to host it. We want to create a new level of interactive readership by writing and publishing a series of serialized stories set in a futuristic world.

What is the story?
Imagine, if you will, a world where ALL the gods are real—and they have returned. Now they have carved up the Earth and vie for the greatest number of worshippers to maintain power and influence. Will they marshal their forces and begin a war between pantheons? Are humans mere pawns and energy sources, or have the gods returned because they need us? New York City had been designated as neutral territory—which makes it a hotspot for intrigue, conflict, and chaos.

Who are the characters?

• Tom Duran works in the Midtown South precinct, a New York cop who thinks he’s seen it all but still has to keep the peace as gods and humans meet and greet in the only neutral city on Earth. A hard-bitten, tired homicide detective, born and bred in Manhattan, Tom investigates what appears to be a routine murder but soon finds himself tested in ways he’s never imagined.

• Gabriella is a lost soul, just past thirty and uncertain in her beliefs. She was secure in her job until one of the Gods decreed her line of work no longer acceptable. Now jobless, single, and adrift, she begins an odyssey searching for herself and for something (or someone) to believe in. Along the way, she has to struggle to stay alive. Emissaries from the various pantheons are always seeking new converts, and to them Gabriella is a potential gold mine. She’s tempted with wealth, security, and creature comforts, and while she happily indulges, none bring fulfillment.

• Jon Falls, a diagnosed schizophrenic, believes he has been chosen to be a holy warrior of God in this new world. He breaks into a museum and steals the armor of a Byzantine knight from the Crusades. His illness means he often sees people as demons and devils and other ungodly forms—but as he dons the stolen armor and embarks upon his crusade it becomes impossible to differentiate what is real and what is merely in his head.

How will it work?
To access our site, we envision three tiers:

• Readers. They don’t pay anything, but they only have access to the very basic material, and no say whatsoever.

• The Rainbow Bridge (Subscribers). They pay a regular fee and can read everything on the site, plus participate in the forums.

• Manna From Heaven (Patrons). They pay a higher fee and can actually get involved in story creation, suggesting areas to explore and characters to focus upon.

The site will include original fiction, roleplaying material, gazeteers, comic book pages, and more. Each will then be collected into printed materials, which will be sold to subscribers and patrons at a discount and to the general public at standard prices. A linked shop will sell licensed merchandise such as T-shirts, mugs, and posters.

This is a unique new venture, not only with its multiple stories and formats being written within a shared world, but with the degree to which readers can gain both insight into and influence over each and every one of those creative works and over the setting as a whole. This is an experimental approach to metafiction and transmedia storytelling, which has the potential to change the way we approach storytelling in this bold new digital age.
