The Sporozoan Cavities Suite of prints is an intaglio project I have been working on for over 6 years. It is the foundation for all of my current projects and its completion will produce a stunning body of work. The Sporozoan Cavities Suite is comprised of 16 copper plates 15 of which are 18x24" and one which is 24x36". From these plates I will print editions of 25 as well as 25 unique prints using the a la poupee http://www.polymetaal.nl/beguin/mapa/a_la_poupee.htm method of printing. This method produces a beautiful and rich print that can elicit a complete different emotional response just by changing the colors of an image.

All of these prints revolve around the origin and evolution of the Sporozoan image as the primary object in all my work. The Sporozoan is derived from the chest cavity of the human form. I visualized the form underneath and slowly modified it until I discovered The Sporozoan. Sporozoan Cavities shows The Sporozoan in many states of being and is drawn in a way to show its anatomy and its exterior features. My obsession with The Sporozoan is growing exponentially. It now embodies four separate projects: The Sporozoan Cavities Suite, The Sporozoan Swarm, The Sporozoan Shrine and The Sporozoan Boxes. I print at Sev Shoon Arts Center http://sevshoon.com/ in the Ballard section of Seattle. They have excellent facilities and provide a stable work environment in which I can devote the months of printing time required to complete this suite. Intaglio printing is time intensive and produces beautifully rich images that have a unique quality to them. Each 18x24" plate takes approximately 25 minutes to ink and print and the 24x36" plate requires 40 minutes. Working in 6 to 8 hour sessions I should be able to finish the Suite in 44 to 50 sessions.

The funds I am trying to raise will be used to cover the expense of materials. Any funds raised above the amount in the proposal will be used to fund one or all of the myriad of other projects I have on the horizon. Here is the breakdown $3400 for 1000 sheets of paper. This amount of paper is the exact amount I need not including loss beyond the normal 10% when printing and this allows for one artist and one printers proof. The printers proof is the one I use while printing editions to follow. The artist proof is mine neither the artist/printers proof are a part of the editions. The remaining $600 will cover the cost of the 60-80 pounds of ink that will be needed to complete the printing.
