History of OSTP…

Before last summer, Osage, Iowa offered no theatre programming for students. As Theatre Arts students at the University of Iowa, we saw an opportunity for growth, and began plans for a children’s summer theatre program. With the support of the Osage Parks and Recreation, we launched Osage Summer Theatre Program (OSTP) in Summer 2011. Last summer, from June-August we taught 26 kids, grades K-12, and put on 6 plays. Twenty percent of the Osage community attended our final performances.

What we do….

We are dedicated to expanding awareness of the arts in northeastern Iowa by providing access to live theatre and theatre education. We believe in developing compassion, deepening community relationships, and building a safe environment for self-expression. At OSTP we teach kids the art of storytelling, the power of imagination, and the importance of ensemble—all valuable lessons we practice on and offstage.

Our next move…

Summer 2012 we are growing our program with more students and two new teaching interns. The students will be involved in multiple steps of production, including acting, costume design, scenic design, and technical implementation.

What we need…

We need your help for our next move! All funds will go towards production supplies, and will be an investment in our program. Here is a rough breakdown of our budget:

Set supplies (paint, lumber, hardware) $650
Costume stock pieces /Osage T-shirts $750
Prop supplies $100
Scripts/Royalties/Teaching Supplies $700
Stage Management Supplies (spike tape, first aid kit, head sets) $300

We believe in the transformative power of theatre and have already begun to see the positive effects in Osage. We hope you can help!
