"No Hay Nada Mas" is about a father and his two children who are forced into living in a motel after their house has been foreclosed.
No Hay Nada Mas is a Cal State Northridge film about a father and his two children who are forced into living in a motel after their house has been foreclosed. Their struggle to stay together amidst the pressure of their difficult realities is at the heart of the work. The film portrays an honest story of a family living almost invisibly on the edge of homelessness and fighting to keep their family together. It speaks to the parents who work endless hours providing for their families financially, but who sacrifice their emotional bonds to do so. No Hay Nada Mas illustrates the daily struggles so many families are facing in these tumultuous times. This story is a representation of real peoples' lives and struggles.
THE PRODUCTION
We are a student production and receive limited funding from the Associated Students of California State University Northridge, to make this film. The total cost of production, however, eclipses the assistance we do receive from the University. "No Hay Nada Mas" is an ambitious project. The logistics of shooting the entire film on location are complicated and will require specific equipment to make this film feel authentic to Los Angeles. The entire team of this film feels that the visuals are paramount in telling the story successfully. We want to give the audience a glimpse into the characters' lives and, in doing so, give voice to all the people out there today with similar struggles. We feel the story can be best told on 35mmwhile going through a 100% photo-chemical process. This way, we can achieve a raw and gritty look without using a digital intermediate to do the work for us. A natural, chemical, in-camera look will be achieved with the use of vintage film stock, specific lighting, production design, wardrobe, and much more. One of the biggest expenses of this project is going to be the cost of film, and all the post-production processes involved in shooting on film. "No Hay Nada Mas" will be shot on 35mm to capture the gritty and realistic images surrounding our characters in a way that digital cannot. We believe the extra cost of shooting on film will be well worth it to tell this story in the best way possible. In addition to permits and transportation funds, creating this short film will require a myriad of other expenses. From lighting and sound equipment to the development and printing of our film at post-production labs, your donation will help bring "No Hay Nada Mas" to the big screen.
STUDENT FILM MAKING
The CSU system is tied to the budget constraints of California and during the recent recession the school has been forced to make cuts. The film program is uniquely affected as an art program as it is the most financially dependent. Assistance from the school itself lessens as money is tightened, despite great efforts from faculty. Although each key crew member has contributed a personal donation, we need to raise more money to bring "No Hay Nada Mas" to life.A professional and strong production helps realize the potential we have as filmmakers as well as represent Cal State Northridge, which has fostered us as students. In tough economic times, promoting education and the arts is a truly important cause. Independent student filmmaking is kept alive by your donation. Please help us bring this story about the importance of friendship to the silver screen!
THE CREW
No Hay Nada Mas is being made by a passionate and talented 12 person crew that shares the same collective sensibilities and vision for this film. There is honesty in the story that has resonated with every crew member. With this crew, we believe we can complete a great film that captures the struggles and realities so many people face. We appreciate your consideration and much-needed help.
