About this project

We're a NY based indie rock band called Beat Radio. We're looking to self release our very first Vinyl record, a 10" EP called Golden Age. We've been making music and building our fan base since 2005, and we're lucky enough to have some really dedicated and enthusiastic fans. Our goal has always been simple: to spread the word about our music as far and wide as possible.

We've embarked on a singles series this year, offering 2 songs each month as a free download via Bandcamp (http://beatradio.bandcamp.com/album/singles-2010). We love releasing music digitally, and the freedom of these modern times, but we want to take things one step further. We want to make something that's not encoded in zeroes and ones. We want to give you something to put your hands on, and take home with you. Basically, we're asking for your help to get our very own Vinyl and Digital record label up and running.

The economics of being an indie rock band are tricky. Everything we make goes back into the band. We're self sufficient for the process of recording, playing shows, artwork, etc--but we need help getting together funds for the vinyl manufacturing costs. After we reach our goal, any funds we have left will allow us the chance to invest in promoting the release, and continuing to keep making new jams. We're also planning on making a video for the title track later this summer.

We've been self releasing music for a while now through free mp3's, handmade cd-r's, small runs of cd's, etc. (you can download our last full length and more here: http://beatradio.org/mp3s.html). Money hasn't really been a part of the picture. It's been more of an art project, and a labor of love. We're more like a family. It's a mad mission. It's not borne of logic. We've got kids, jobs, responsibilities. But we believe in music. And we believe we've got something important to share. And we believe that there's some sort of wonderful alchemy that occurs when music is cut into the grooves of vinyl. When we dream, records are always spinning on turntables. Making a record is a dream we've shared since we were kids.

We see this as a unique opportunity to get our music out in to the world in a way that is meaningful and powerful, and achieve some more of the goals we've set out to accomplish.
