About this project

I am a published writer and journalist who focuses on culture, language and the human condition. I believe writing about the world and its people is the best way to inspire humanity at large to appreciate and love the things that are beyond their immediate scope.

My dream has always been to visit the place of my heritage and see its flesh, blood, stars and water: Sicily. My family is from Sicily, and yet I never had the chance to see their country. My goal is to meet its people, listen to the language and meet my history. The final result would be a widely publicized, full-length published memoir of experience written in poems. I will focus not only on my experiences in Sicily, but the lessons and truths found there that can be delivered to everyone.

The result would be an homage to the culture and people that have shaped me from far away in New York City: their passion, love for family, their goodness and darkness. This collection would be published with a small press. It would be my second published piece of full-length work.

The $1100.00 would help fund my travel, my food and my lodging. I will fund the rest if this is pledged, though my goal would be to earn nearly $2000.00 This has been a life-long dream. I grew up in near-poverty, and want to dedicate this book to my hard-working family.

I also want to donate the book to Italian-American literary organizations and use it to foster an awareness of the power of cultural writing. This collection will also further the appreciation of Italy and clear up the many misinterpretations of Italian culture that we see in the media today.

Please help my dreams come true!

Everyone who donates will be mentioned on my website and in my blog: www.lisamariebasile.com and www.ifinfinity.blogspot.com. You can also visit me on Poet & Writer's Directory of Poets.

Arrivederci!
