I'm on a mission to rid the world of the paper coffee cup...one ceramic travel cup at a time.
The story:
It all started with a cup of coffee...
One morning, I was standing in line at my favorite coffee house, watching the barista make my latte. There was a steady stream of folks on the run getting their coffee, just like any other morning. All of a sudden, it hit me--the number of paper cups I personally used in a single week, multiplied by the number of people in line at every coffee house, every morning of the week around the world.
That day, I began work on a ceramic travel mug--a cup that would be both functional and fun to use. A mug that would be attractive, yet practical--unique, yet convenient enough to carry every day.
The result is my line of cafe-style coffee mugs--these mugs are my effort to reduce the use of paper coffee cups, while adding a little something special to the morning commute. I'm my only employee--I handle every aspect from production to marketing and deliveries. I love making these mugs, I use one every day, and I love knowing that, by making these cups, I have helped in some little way to reduce our consumption of paper coffee cups.
How you can help:
I've been making these mugs for around a year now, and I'd like to make some changes in my line. I recently moved to Seagrove, a small North Carolina town long known for pottery-making, where there are still local clay veins nearby. Located only 8 miles from my studio, there is a small company that turns these local materials into a clay that is suitable for throwing. Since I have access to these local clays, I'd like to switch from using a clay that's shipped here to one of our local clays for my travel mugs. This will reduce the distance my clay has to travel, and will also help to support our local economy.
Your pledges will go directly toward the work involved with making this transition: clay testing, glaze formulation, the incorporation of local clay--I need to test everything before I put the cups into production. I'd also like to develop different size mugs, as I've had lots of requests for a smaller and bigger version. In the event that I raise more than my goal, that money will be used to purchase a second kiln, so I can increase my production.
Thanks for any support you can give to this project, I truly appreciate it!
