What Is This Project About?

This will be the fulfillment of one of my life long dreams: to write a novel. I'm one of the proud few that prefer books to HD movies and video games. I'd like to spread that love of reading to new readers, particularly teenagers. I aim to write a classic fantasy novel, and the funds raised here will enable me to do just that.

Why Not Someone Else?

It's obvious that a career writer would be better suited to creating a novel than a newcomer to the field, so why will I be able to write a novel (and a good one at that)? Well, my passion for writing and reading is an asset that many people today lack. I'm not interested in this project to make a quick buck, I'm here to write a quality book that I hope will one day be considered a classic. I've read countless books and know what is entertaining and what isn't to a reader. Due to my lack of qualifications, I've kept the funding goal for this project rather low.

What Will the Money be Used For?

Put simply, the money will go towards many things. Funds will go to things ranging from hiring an artist to design the cover of the book to getting sources for research of accurate medieval warfare/government. Any excess funds past the $500 goal will go towards further advertising the novel and increasing the length of the book.

The Novel Itself

I suppose I should provide a few details with my vision of the finished product if I'm to gain any support for my cause. My inspiration is mainly the Inheritance series, the A Song of Ice and Fire series, and The Lord of the Ring series; due to these influences, you can expect a similar setting and type of story. I'll be aiming for a young adult audience, and a length of about 150-300 pages. The estimated completion would be around August/September of 2012. This is only a few months, however I've already brainstormed much of what I'd like to do, and now the main obstacle is putting it into words and gaining the funds to produce a finished product.

Progress of the Book

I'll post a few excerpts as I meet new goals in order to foster faith in the project and my writing ability. The goals and excerpts that I will post once I reach them are as follows:

• $100 - I'll post a prologue to the book, along with a title.
• $200 - I'll update with a list of characters that will be in the novel, as well as notable locations.
• $350 - I'll post the first few pages of the novel.
