The ABC's of Consequence is a series of 28 images created to examine our detachment from the "War on Terror".  I created the set to relieve my soul of the angst, and that worked for a time.  But time has passed and very little has changed...so I want to try again.  Bigger.  In short, I want to reprint lots of these and get them in front of many more people.  People like you.

This project began in response to the way candidates for president avoid discussing the consequences of the "War on Terror".   In 2008 only Dennis Kucinich was making any noise that was not a soundbite.  In 2012 there was only Ron Paul.  Both parties...very little in the way of grappling with reality.

I designed the series as postcard art and sent two each week to my elected representatives (and some friends).  I dreamed some staffer or volunteer would start noticing them over the weeks, and might start collecting them as they came in.  Seeds might be planted...

This started in 2008.  Its 2012!  Look at these images...what has changed?  I became complacent because I thought I was part of electing change, but now I see that change is not so easily had.

This depresses me.  But I am getting fired up too.  I want to try again.

I want the ABC's of Consequence in congressional mailboxes; I want them on coffee tables and in coffee shops; I want them on message boards at universities;  I want them on the water-cooler at your office.  I want them on T-Shirts worn by solid people who want to be asked what they are about.

If there is a single underlying message I want this project to aim for, it is this: Using military force requires us to care.  About the goals; about the troops; about the consequences. 

At the absolute least, we are required to pay attention. 

I need your help to get people's attention.  Will you help me?

All support will go to creating postcards, t-shirts or postage.

If you can support this project financially, awesome.  But please support this project with more than a few bucks:  Commit to being public.  The idea is not to challenge people to debates, but to provide a different angle into the issues in the art.  I don't think the true problem is not enough knowledge; it has become not enough give-a-crap.  

Take that comfy seat at Cup O' Joe and set some cards over there on the end table.  Wear a shirt while walkin' the cat and smile at the folks staring at your chest.  Be a rebel and post a card on the bulletin board at work.

This is the U as it looked in the original series.  I'm torn.  Which do you prefer?  I would like to add conversations about these choices to the project too.

This is an example of the reverse (of U for  Unmanned) in the original set.  See the name up there?  Reg Marsoon is an anagram of Morgan Rose (as is my psuedonym Sam Grooner).  Craw & Spitoli is an anagram as well.  Many of the postcard backs had anagram messages on them.  The 2012 backs will not.  While the anagram work pleased me then, my focus now is communication, not puzzlement.  I am still working up the 2012 backs.  

SUCCESS!  We have reached the funding goal...art will be made!

And AGAIN!  The stretch goal of $1100 was hit with 8 days to go.  Everyone in the POSTCARDS! and T-SHIRTS! levels will also get the original 2008 set of cards with their rewards.  Awesome!

And Again?  The next stretch goal is $1860.  If we can beat this number, I will create a hardcover book of the art and add it to the rewards for T-SHIRTS! level and above.
