About this project

The Greencorn family has lived in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains for generations, but with farming no longer an option, the best chance for survival has become the clandestine cultivation of marijuana. And this season, they're expecting their biggest crop ever, the one that will put them over the top. But with all their expertise and precautions, trouble ensues when they suddenly attract the unwanted attention of the local "mountain mafia". Southern archetypes meet current-day economic realities in GREEN CORN, a movie about the supply side of demand. Featuring music by reggae and dub legends by the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, King Tubby, and Burning Spear.

GREEN CORN is a super-low-budget, HD feature film which will commence shooting very shortly in the foothills of East Tennessee. We are employing Kickstarter in our final push to cover expenses during the production. Currently, we already have assembled our talented cast and crew, scheduled our shoot, and have already secured our production gear for the shoot, a Red One camera and lighting/grip package which alone is valued at well over $60,000.

What we need now is help with paying for actor fees, along with feeding and lodging our cast and crew during the shoot. We have a great project that's all finally coming together through a combination of elbow grease, friends, and love for this project. With your help, we will be able to wrap our shoot this summer, thus allowing us to make those crucial festival deadlines by late Fall. We hope you'll follow us on our website and on facebook, and if you like what we're trying to do, please help us make it happen!

We are trying to raise $6,000 now via Kickstarter, just to get us through our upcoming shoot, but we could certainly use more like $8000 or $10,000 to make this dream a reality. But with this amount, if we're lucky enough to raise it, we'll be able to make the best of the limited time we have these talented people and resources available to us. I hope you'll join our cause and help keep GREEN CORN fed and watered, while we're taking off work for a month to make a film!

We will be updating on our progress, and adding new and maybe even fancier rewards to this page as we go, so please check back often. Thank you one & all.

FAQ

  • Good question!  Publicly, in theaters or elsewhere, we don't yet know and can only hope.  But after a year of editing, color correcting, sound design, pickups and additional shooting last October and this past July, we are pleased with the results and have begun the process of submitting the film to festivals.  But the post-production work on Green Corn continues, at least until we are accepted to and screened at festivals in early/mid-2012.

Brian Cagle is a filmmaker hailing from Chattanooga, Tennessee. When he’s not wasting all his money & time collecting records, he teaches film production courses at Northwestern University, and makes his own films. Brian has been fortunate enough to see his films screened at festivals, museums, in coffee shops, and upon garage doors. Such festivals include Downstream Int’l. Film Fest, Indie Grits, Indie Memphis, and museums like the Hunter Museum and the Chattanooga Regional History Museum. He once won a bunch of cash for a cellphone film competition, with which he took a trip to Omaha and bought a couch.

Currently Brian is working on his first feature film, “Green Corn”, shooting summer of 2010.
