The Daily Beast /Newsweek features the Mexican Suitcase!
Two weeks ago the Mexican Suitcase was shown in Time Magazine! This week its Newsweek. The opening image shown below is an amazing portrait of a young boy dressed up like a Republican soldier. What's interesting about this image is for years it was thought to be by Robert Capa. But it was only after the recovery of the Mexican Suitcase, and when curator Cynthia Young was working on the caché, that she discovered that this image was on half of a roll of film attributed to Capa which was in the ICP ( International Center of Photography) archives and yet it matched with a piece of film rolled up in the Mexican Suitcase. What was also interesting was when she placed the pieces together these disparate negative rolls of film were taken by Chim not Capa and this image which is well know, in part through the Richard Whelan book, "The Decisive Collection" was wrongly attributed. To me though what is so amazing is that one roll of film which was cut in two would end up being separated for 60 years and then come together again - and in so doing tell us new information! The Mexican Suitcase is getting the best coverage and publicity for the film but we still have to fill our pledges.. we are doing great but need to raise $500 a day now to meet our goal ! PLEASE redouble your efforts for us. Pass this on to your friends and lets work to meet our goal ! We have just 6 days to go!
THANK YOU!
Trisha Ziff - Director.

This intensity and "connect" is so typical of David Seymour's photos of children. Even though many of his photos are observing children who seem not to be aware of the camera, they all allow the observer to have that powerful connection... and they all convey so much dignity. How wonderful that the attribution has finally been made. I feel such gratitude to Cynthia Young!
