This is a film that's coming from several different places. It's not just a drama. It's not just science fiction. It's a glimpse into the world of one character, David Tamet, an astronaut, who has always felt isolated and on a different frequency as everyone else, trying desperately to change the station. In the year 2050, he is sent on a mysterious mission, alone. He sees this as his one chance to become part of something great, and share an experience with others. He becomes marooned after an accident, and he struggles to find some sign of hope, as he slowly begins to fear the very people back home he's always wanted to connect with have abandoned him once and for all, in the worst place imaginable.
What I want to do is make this a film that stays with the viewer. I want to raise questions rather than try to answer them. I don't want anything to be too concrete; the audience's mind is more creative than the storyteller can ever be, and I really believe the key to making a good film is not dictating to the audience, but rather feeding their imagination to birth their own unique interpretations of what they're seeing and hearing. The filmmaker has their own vision of what's going on; it's when you can let the viewer take on a sense of ownership in the project that it really becomes something special.
I want this film to also visually strike everybody in many ways. I have special effects shots planned that are both intimidating and very exciting. I have a terrific crew who is totally into this. And, finally, I have a budget. The budget.... ahh.. there it is.
How I plan to do all of this: Quite simply, my crew and I plan to make this film with you. We are feeling pretty solid right now. Set design is underway, script is locked in and finished, and casting is beginning very soon. We could really use some support to help us accomplish all of our tasks, and we'd appreciate any help at all.
The pledges we get will all go towards helping to fund this film We've already partitioned a budget for things like talent transport, food, additional expenses, etc. The part of the budget you'd be pledging for is the production costs. Equipment, cameras, lenses, costume design, props, and shooting permits. You will be directly contributing to the most essential aspects of our production. We really appreciate anything you can pledge, and we really look forward to hearing from a lot of you!
Be sure to check out the rewards, too! The last one is something we are REALLY excited about!
Thanks, and good luck in your own projects!

Any pledge of $1 or more will get you a personal thank you from us, access to our film's blog (follow our progress!), and a credit in our film... and a credit in a film is pretty darn cool.
A pledge of $5 or more will get you a personal thank you, access to our film's blog, a credit in the film, and your very own copy of the completed film once it's finished.
Any pledge $10 or more will get you all the cool stuff in the previous rewards, plus a wonderful CD or mp3 collection (your choice) of original music score created for the film. A lot of the music being created may not end up in the final film, so this will be somewhat of a rare collection!
A pledge of $25 or more gets you everything mentioned in the previous awards, plus an invitation to the official Meridian wrap party, due to be held in NYC sometime in February. It will be a ridiculous amount of fun with the whole crew and we'd love to see you there!
Any pledge that is $75 or more will be rewarded with all that's been mentioned, plus something really really great: a collection of artwork inspired by the main character of our film, David. David's life story, his emotions, and his views, are what will ultimately drive this film. In an effort to fully realize him in a unique way, several artists will create a piece they feel represents David. From photographs and sketches, to poems, music and maybe even video, this collection of work will be compiled together in a book form, and displayed somewhere as an event. As a $75-or-more pledger, you also get the opportunity to submit pieces of artwork that you feel represent David as well. We'd love to talk to anyone who wants more information on David, and we hope to have many contributors to create a beautiful piece of artwork that can both go along with our film, and stand on its own as a genuine collection of authentic art.
