From the Universities and the Field
Sydney/Auckland academics co-arranged a Conference on Interactive Entertainment this last weekend. Brian Schwab, AI Engineer, was the International keynote speaker. He talked about biases in psychology and how players use these in gameplay. Soon to publish a second book on AI for games, his address covered some key points, some likely to have gotten a mention this year at GDC,2012.http://www.blizzplanet.com/blog/comments/2012-gdc-blizzard-entertainment-speakers-schedule-march-5-9
It was great to hear from Brian in the context of his already having eighteen years in AI. At the conference I also got to hear from a Phd graduate out of Northwestern.Yusef Pisan works with Chek Tien Tan at the Sydney at thehttp://gamesstudio.org/. Pisan is also in the environment of research with http://www.creativityandcognition.com/people/.
Yusef told me how he is well aware of a fellow traveller, Robin Hunicke, from Northwestern - aware of her involvement with games and the championing of games development over the years. He said he made one brief call once to thatgamecompany.
Robin makes summary statements about JOURNEY in the film. The on-camera post-mortem is a purposeful lead in to an expose of the game build that comes later in the film.
We are winding up our first kickstarter goal in two weeks which was to get the whole film assembled as a large edit. It is now designed as a three act-structure with three sub-categories within each of these acts. It is now way too long, a necessary process. It is a miracle maze of ideas with a lot of passion coming through.
We wish, ideally, to keep up the momentum from mid August on to a pattern of working over a day a weekend until stage two of editing - the fine-cut done. It will be useful to us that you amplify to a new strata of people how this is all going. Please put your thinking hat on, cite the kickstarter 2 still running this week to the wider networks. The new people can click into kickstarter on the right of the website now. usandthegameindustry.com
You are part of all this momentum.
Thanks so much.
