About this project
The StrayDog Theatre Company (SDTC) is making a trip out to the west coast of Canada to participate in the Into the West Theatre Festival (ITWF) happening on Bowen Island (about one hour out of downtown Vancouver). SDTC is there to headline the inaugural season of the ITWF which helps support local theatre in the community and more importantly the local theatre school, the Tir-na-nog theatre school. The school has, for the past twentythree years, been dedicated to providing a space wherein young people may practice the art of using their imagination and the knowledge it brings them through the discipline of theatre: the essence of which is to perceive the world whithin and around us with reverence, love and compassion and to search for the seed of understanding within these experiences. These new eyes, this developed perspective enhances the individual's ability to work with others toward the creation of a harmonious whole and to foster a responsibility for oneself and others that is the beginning of Peace in the World.
Over the past few years the TNN school has been struggling more and more to keep the doors open due to financial instability. However this is not the cause of dropping enrollment but due to cuts in government and local funding. Our hope is that by producing shows through the summer in the TNN space we can reach a larger audience base there by peaking interest in the school while helping to pay off-season rent.
Every day all over the world theaters are closing and the power of live performance is being lost.
We believe that with your help this can be prevented.
