ABOUT THE PROJECT
In January & February of 2012, Dendê will go to Bahia to record his second album fittingly entitled Back to Bahia. Using the world famous WR studio, he will record 12 of his original compositions that will be edited and mixed at his own Dendezeiros studio in Brooklyn, NY upon his return in March. Upon completion he will package and release the album with a live performance in October 2012. 

Your donation to this kickstarter project will go towards the following:

Dendê, percussionist, singer, composer, bandleader, and teacher, has performed professionally since the age of 14 when he appeared in Carlinhos Brown’s Timbalada. With Timbalada, he toured throughout Brazil, Europe and Asia, recorded eight of their albums, appeared on various television shows, and performed with a who’s who of popular Brazilian music.

Since 2001, he has split his time between Brazil and the US and performed with Mongo Santamaria, Giovanni Hidalgo, Zakir Hussain, David Byrne, Jerry Gonzales, and Vinicius Cantuária, among others. His recent appearances in Brazil include the Mercado Cultural in Salvador da Bahia where he performed with the exceptional jazz ensemble Speak in Tones led by Daniel Moreno and Mike Ellis with featured artists Cheikh Tidiane Seck, Graham Haynes, and Adam Rudolph. His debut CD Bahia de Todos Os Santos has received much critical acclaim; the title track is quickly becoming an anthem of Brazilophiles everywhere. Dendê also teaches Afro-Brazilian percussion classes in the New York City area and organizes percussion trips to Brazil.
