Where else will you find a rock band, nine dance numbers, supernatural creatures, five strobe lights, sixteen side lights, one dramatic trash can, and an accordion?

Mindset is a show about perceptions that takes place inside the mind of an artist. The artist’s mind wanders between a waiting room and the imagination.  The artist is represented by the Child, Teenager, Adult and Elder, who each show how the artist’s perception of reality changes through life.   The artist is trapped inside the waiting room of the mind until the enters the realm of the subconscious.  The artist is intentionally designed to be non-gender specific and racially ambiguous to represent how the artist is a generalization of our experiences.

The show was inspired by the fear of failure. This internal struggle between trusting yourself and obeying your fears served as the basis for this show.  The creative process for Mindset was simple.  We asked ourselves how our fears have influenced us as artists.  We generalized our experiences and divided them into four phases.  When we were young, we didn’t know that we were supposed to fear failure and so we could create with unlimited imagination. As we got older, we were exposed to outside criticism, creating internal confusion about our abilities. This confusion eventually morphed into a third phase where we were haunted and ruled by our fears.  Finally, we embraced our fears and continued to create with unlimited potential.  The Child, Teenager, Adult and Elder portray our interpretation of these four phases.  
Stylistically, we want Mindset to break the typical performance mold.  We isolated what we think are the best elements from different performance genres and fused them together.  The show draws influence from performance art, musical theatre, dance performances, live concert and even opera. The performance is structured around dialogue but is interwoven with dance and live music from popular culture.
