Marcin Jakubowski came to the U.S. from Poland as a child. He graduated with honors from Princeton and earned his Ph.D. in fusion physics from the University of Wisconsin, before shifting direction and starting a hydroponic vegetable farm. He then began his education from scratch, and in 2003 he founded Open Source Ecology in order to make closed-loop manufacturing a reality. At his research and training facility, Factor e Farm in rural Missouri, he is developing the Global Village Construction Set and has since become an international leader in open source hardware.
I'm still waiting for my reward.
I have asked for updates by sending two messages through this website but I didn't get any reply.
Wondering if you guys have any update on the building workshop... I see you are posting some updates on how the business is growing on your blog... And that you are about to launch another peer funding campaign... How about a word or two to your kick starters about the state of the rewards on the 1384 pledges.... Not that it was at all the most important part of why we backed you... But it'd be nice to know we haven't been forgotten in the shuffle of your growth.... Itd be nice if promises were fufilled... Especially before you launch another campaign.
Hi OSE team,
Have you set a date for the Factor e Farm Visitor's Days? I'm looking forward to any updates from you. Thanks.
things are still moving on their blog ( http://blog.opensourceecology.org/ ). have they updated the kickstarter community recently? DVDs on the way soon???
What's up?!?!?
It's been a looong while since I should have received an email to ask for my address to send the DVD. Please be fair to the folks that backed you up!
no news since december - nice holiday trip ...
Yeah...the silence is deafening....
Did a survey go out to get our mailing addresses? I've received nothing and the project seems dead. The lack of communication is very discouraging..............
Hmm.. So I'm not the only one that never received a survey for the mailing address of our rewards?
no news for a while... is everything OK with OSE ?
whatever, thanks for what you do !
Quick question, will you guys be shipping rewards for the different reward levels? Wondering when you are planning on doing that. Thanks!
Awesome job, such a great project!
I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of growth this project stimulates in the world.
Keep up the hard work!
Congratulations! I can't wait to see some of the machines that you are prototyping and using.
GRATULACJE!
Congratulations Marcin! I am happy to be a part of this experiment! I would like to visit you in Missouri one of these days.
YES!!! Come to Mexico!! Just backed it up and will receive the DVD, there's a group of interested people in my community in Tepoztlan, were several permaculture projects are rising
Maybe you can take this project on the road, to lets say Mexico. Id love to be a part of it!
Like Pablo Naruda, I have a great love of things and a special love for tools that help us do the work of living cooperatively and sustainable on the planet. I have very little money so would love more ways to help.
You can preorder the current GVCS machines: http://opensourceecology.org/wiki/Preorders
Very happy to contribute. This is a great idea, keep up the good work ;)
Can't wait to get my fridge magnet :)
Great stuff Guys. let us know when you want to bring these Ideas up to canada!
Yes! I've been supporting you guys since the very beginning back in the day, now finally a kickstarter project to take off for real.
Phase 2, here we come! :D
Congrats, Marcin!
Yay! You guys are fully funded!
Hey Marcin, I do 3D Motion Graphics and Visual FX so if you need any imagery I would be happy to support anyway I can.
hello. i am a computer technician from torrance, california. in my spare time i also engineer quite a few things.
i would be more than happy to donate my engineering knowledge to this project.
there are a few projects i think could go in your kit.
email me at : lidikaycustom@yahoo.com if you are interested.
Thanks! :D
just one more thing. Kickstarter should mentoin that backer will be charged only if the project is successfully pledged. Without this info some users might hesitate to support because they might be affraid of spending money without helping the project. I hope you see what I mean.
I just donated last 10 bucks :D haha
Anyway great job! I totally agree with your approach and philosophy.
Wishing you good luck!
Great to see you on Kickstarter! I saw your TedTalk a couple months ago and really enjoyed learning about your project. Good luck!
Going small without going backward.
Maker movement = Occupy the Manufacture
I am hopeful that this will not only help small farmers and homesteaders here, but spread to less developed nations and areas world wide, enabling everyone the chance for development. This has great potential, especially due to the open source nature of it
Projects like these make me realize that the advancement of civilization is not in the hands of governments, or corporations, but rather from great people who want to share their passion with the world.
I'm extremely excited about this project, and my only regret is not being able to give more.
Frank Lloyd Wright -- His unrealized Broadacre City design project. A major goal was to change the patterns of production and consumption to enable true democracy. He planned design centers that would create products in a way that would preserve the independence of the individual and their neighbors. The GVCS would fit right in with this vision.
Amazing! F`rom the last update I can see you're working really hard laying these bricks with the unavoidable break of machines and I guess now the cold weather is kicking in - you do need help.
I wish you the very best of luck - this is a great great great project and deserve to reach its goal. It is very important.
I see this project enabling people to become more productive and profitable using only the resources they already have available to them. This is truly a solution that creates wealth and strengthens local economies especially in the developing world. It is not often that a technology comes along with the potential to break down cyclical poverty. Best of luck to all of you!
Hey everyone, lets all double our Pledges! This absolutely great and It is time for our Generation to Change the World, for us, and for our Children! Lets make this happen Now! I will change my pledge from $10 to $500 Dollars. Please Join me if you can.
"...an idea whose time has come"
skyrocketing :-)
I've been following you guys for a while and now have some funds to pledge. Starting with $8 whenever I have some to spare.
What an incredibly ethical and truly brilliant idea.
Applause.
Very best of luck.
