This fall season marks the 10th Anniversary of Green River Ordinance as a band. To say it’s been an up-and-down journey or a very winding road with extreme highs and lows would be an understatement. From starting something in high school, to dropping out of college and buying a van (sweet Lambchop) to touring the country 15 times over, to signing with Capitol Records, to recently leaving Capitol Records – and everything in between, the constant in it all has been family, friends, and fans. The people – that is what we’ve learned make all this worth it. Playing for you, meeting you, talking with you and learning your stories – it somehow makes the overnight drives and time away from our families make a little more sense.
In 2009 and 2010, we have seen tastes of very sought after success: 2 Top 40 radio singles, songs on over 20 TV shows, music videos on MTV and VH1, writing sessions and tours with our heroes whom we now call friends. Still, after all of that, we feel we’ve only scratched the surface.
We've just started writing and recording for our next album and we need your help to make it happen! We're at a pivotal point in our career right now. We're trying to do things a little bit differently, but the main goal is that we want to bridge the gap between fan and artist to make us one (we are coining this phrase, Fartist). We want to include you guys in every aspect of the creative recording process. We want to let you step into what we're doing and be a part of our next record.
In order for us to do that we've decided to split ways with Capitol Records. We have many dear friends at that label and we had an amazing experience there. The last few years have been incredible with the support that they have shown us in our career. But for us to make the best music possible, to get music to you guys directly, and to have you guys be a part of what we're doing, it made sense to leave the major label system for now.
We've taken a huge risk by walking away from a major label and this is why we need your help. Using Kickstarter to offer an assortment of goods and services, we're letting you guys fund, contribute to, and witness the creative recording process.
Being independent will also let us put more music into your hands than we have in the past 3 years. In order to help fund the record and in celebration of these last 10 years, we're releasing an acoustic EP and an EP of our favorite cover songs. Every bit of your contributions from this campaign will be used to create, record, promote and distribute these various projects, including our next full length record. The more money we raise, the more creative we can get and the more people we can reach with this new music that we are very excited about! No contribution is too small, or too big for that matter. There are over 30 options ranging from $1 to $10,000 – and hopefully something for everyone. The actual expenses of the record, the EPs, and promotion is closer to $75,000 - so the goal is to get as close to that as possible.
Some of the things we’re offering here include:
- Playing an acoustic show at your house
- Letting you come hang out at the studio with us while we record
- Putting your name in our album credits
- Skype you into a recording session and let you watch
- We'll write a song with you or you can even name one of our songs on the new album
We just want to make the best record possible and in order to do that we're putting our future in your hands. So look over the options to the right, see if any tickle your fancy, and help spread the word!
