Parties are a dime a dozen in New York City, but this kinda party is rooted in Breton tradition and is vital to a culture abroad.
Our organization's goal is to promote and develop Breton music (music from Brittany, the Celtic country in NW France) across the continent. We are all amateur musicians trying our best to create an organization focused on Breton music - learning, performing, and teaching. This type of traditional- and contemporary-Celtic music has a fervent following at home in Brittany, and we're trying to expose people in North America to the music as we have been.
The best way to celebrate our second anniversary is to organize a traditional Breton Ball: a Fest-Noz. And, we've invited Breton musicians from all over the US and Canada!
This type of gathering is a staple in Brittany and allows music and dance to be taught and to develop, to preserve old traditions and to create new arrangements. It's how Breton music lives.
While dancing can be taught, finding musicians is a little tougher, so we sent out a search party and found some nearby:
Now that we found them, we need your help to bring them in New York City for our Fest Noz! And of course we do have a plan:
Our project is simple and scalable, the more money we can get, the more musicians we can afford to come over. We just need a minimum amount of cash to get the party going.
What is the money is for?
Musicians are all happy to come for free, but need some gas money and hosting. We've already found ways to cover basic expenses for most of the very local musicians, but we need some help for transportation money which will help us to close the budget (about $15k total)
Why do we need YOUR help?
A Fest-Noz is not a regular concert, it's a human experience, a traditional Celtic Ball where older and younger people can dance side by side.
A fest-noz is something which needs to be a living experiment. Not just a project. we need people to see, listen dance, ...
Each dollar counts.

Bagpipes are found all over Europe, and aside of the Great Highland Bagpipes, well known in Scottish Pipe-Band. In Brittany, there is a small version of it called "Biniou", our festival will feature it, and you will be able to see it in its natural habitat, having people dancing for it!
