In the 1960's, a black family moved in to an all-white neighborhood in NY state. Soon after, white families moved out.
Have you ever wondered about something that happened a long time ago, when you were a child? I did. This documentary is an investigation...
"Waterbury Manor: a documentary"
When I was young (in the 1960's), the world was different than today. A person's religion, national origin, gender, and race were scrutinized and used to determine his or her worthiness.
That way of thinking never made sense to me, but it happened nearby in my hometown...
Waterbury Manor was originally a "white neighborhood." During my childhood, it became a neighborhood in transition. Black families moved in and lots of white families moved out.
In some ways, Waterbury Manor was a harsh reflection of the times - when skin color determined who lived in which neighborhood. In other ways, it was a success story. Waterbury Manor became a thriving, integrated middle class community, which it remains today.
Why make a documentary?
This is a story that I believe deserves to be told. It is a part of the American story of the times.
Let's record this story now, while some of the people who lived it are still around to tell it.
