About this project

My Kickstarter Project is to weave 1000 prayer flags using positive messages gathered from all over the world.

Several hundred of these flags will be hand delivered to Ground Zero and NYC to honor the 10th anniversary on 9/11/11. The rest will be dispersed around the globe to honor the International day of Peace on September 21st.

This Kickstarter project grows out of “Woven Voices: Messages from the Heart”, an interactive global community art project inspired by Tibetan prayer flags and the Buddhist concept of impermanence. I designed this project in the winter of 2007-08 as a six month effort. Here we are in 2011 and "Woven Voices" continues to get local and international attention and support! Read More!

There comes a time in one's life when it is fitting to let go of something or someone. In the spirit of the Buddhist concept of impermanence, that nothing lasts forever, now is the time for me to let go of “Woven Voices: Messages from the Heart”. This Kickstarter project will create a grand and fitting closure for this 3 year global community art project.

This summer my studio will open to the community to help weave 1000 prayer flags using the positive messages that I have gathered.

Like all other messages for this project, these have been read out loud in Market Square Portsmouth, NH to honor and release them to the universe.

When the flags are completed, I will deliver several hundred to Ground Zero and NYC. The rest of the flags will go to designated sites all over the world, including sites suggested by Kickstarter backers. Many of the flags will go to the project backers as part of the rewards program.

Your Kickstarter pledge will go to cover studio overhead/expenses, materials, postage to ship the flags out to the world, and transportation/travel expenses to go to NYC in September.

Please check out my blog about the activities and events of "Woven Voices".

Thanks for your support of this inspiring project!

~ Sarah

Sarah Haskell was born and raised in New England. Family, community, and social justice are the foundations of her artwork and her teaching. Sarah received a BFA in Textile Design from Rhode Island School of Design and is completing her Masters of Art and Healing at Wisdom University.

Sarah’s studio artwork is founded in a quest for truth and beauty. Her work explores the cross over between text and textile, investigating the mystery of encoded fabrics and the hidden language of cloth.

As a community artist, Sarah guides art projects throughout New England in prisons, hospitals, mental health or community centers and retirement communities. These projects literally weave the fabric of the community into works of art.
