...OR, A FINAL APPEAL AND EXPLANATION.
This missive isn't about Jon Bon Jovi. Well, if you get to the second paragraph, there's definitely some Jon Bon Jovi in it, for sure. But, this is really about the preposterous Kickstarter campaign -- the most ambitious film project on Kickstarter to date -- that we undertook in order to crowd-fund the sequel/prequel/remake (aka Spreemake) to BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON. The new film is called B4TM (aka BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON). It makes perfect sense. In my head.
I figured I'd leave the prospects of a second film subject to a democracy of sorts. Now that we can crowd-fund projects, the idea of being able to take arbitrary decisions out of the hands of out-of-touch Hollywood executives and landing them squarely in a meritocracy felt so alluring. And that's where Jon Bon Jovi comes in.
See, movies are funded, traditionally, by investors who then lay off as much of their risk by pre-selling as many ancillary revenue streams as possible. If Jon Bon Jovi were starring in a traditional producer's film, he'd be worth 70 million dollars (give or take) to an Italian distributor, so the Italians would pony up 70 million dollars. And then the BBC, say, would pay 47 million for U.K. Cable/VOD rights (again, give or take), BMW would pay 13.75 million so Bon Jovi could drive their car in the Picture, and so on. What I'm doing with the sequel is pre-selling the movie directly to the fans -- taking out the middle man, as it were.
So, here's been the proposition: if you suppose you'd attend the premiere and after party in NYC or LA if I post on FB in a year that tickets are available, well I'm asking you to reserve your ticket now ($14). If you'd buy the DVD/Blu-ray or download the film down the road, I'm asking you to pre-order your copy now ($32). If you'd like Robert Englund to record your voicemail greeting, -- example "Stephanie is not here right now because she's stuck in a nightmare until I let her wake up", here's your chance ($499). If you'd like to be dealt a gruesome on-screen death, well, that's for sale, too ($7500).
There are plenty more items that you can reserve, and the money goes towards our ultimate funding goal. At no risk to you. If we don't raise all of the money, we don't get any of the money, and you aren't charged a thing. Make no mistake, this isn't a charity. But, you are getting something tangible in return for your pledge. And, consider this, if we are successful at crowd-funding $450,000, we'll feel a lot more confident about raising money for something non-profit and trendy. Like urban farms.
Thanks for your consideration. We've got 35 hours to go. Here's the link to our Kickstarter campaign:
Please hurry. Please share. Please spay and neuter your pet.
