Manufacturing and Software Updates
Our production line is humming along, with the daily output creeping upwards to 1,500 Pebbles per day (PPD). Overall, it takes about 2 weeks for a single Pebble to be manufactured, assembled, boxed up and shipped to our distribution centers, so it took us a little while for the whole process to be ironed out.

There will be a one week interruption in output from the factory next week during Chinese New Year. We've taken steps to reduce the effect of CNY by stockpiling necessary components at our factory so that assembly can resume promptly after the holiday. In particular, to increase output before CNY, we've shifted some subassembly manufacturing to a facility in Taiwan for the most important assembly in the design, the optical adhesion of the LCD module to the lens. Building will be paused during CNY, but shipping will continue as we have a backlog of manufactured Pebbles to ship out.
Color Pebbles
As you can see in the graph above, we're on track to have manufactured 15,000 Black Pebbles before the beginning of Chinese New Year (Feb 8) (more data available on ispebbleshipping.com). After the holiday, production of other colours Pebbles will begin. In order to avoid delays, if you have a requested a Black Pebble as part of a multi-Pebble reward pack we will also be trying our best to fulfill that portion of the reward separately. We had to modify our shipping software to break down rewards into separate colors, so this hasn't started yet.
Software Updates
If you already have your Pebble on-wrist, keep your eyes peeled for updates to Pebble Android and iOS apps. As backers send us support requests and let us know about bugs and other problems, we will be publishing updates that fix issues you may be experiencing.
Software updates to the Pebble operating system (OS) itself will also be published regularly. The Pebble app on your smartphone will let you know when an update is available, and prompt you to install.
Known Issues
Pebble users have already reported several major issues that we're working to solve.
iOS email
When Pebble's Bluetooth connection with an iPhone or iPod touch is broken, the iOS software module that sends email notifications switches off. We've brought this issue up with Apple's developer support, but we can't expect a solution necessarily from this pathway. Currently, there is a workaround method to reenable email notifications (link) but it means toggling a switch after a disconnect. We are working to solve this problem (this is our #1 priority iOS task), and we'll keep Pebblers updated about this issue. To help us out, if you're an iOS Pebble user, please fill in this survey about your email usage.
Other issues that we're working to solve
- Email notifications from the default email app on HTC and some other Android devices are not being delivered to Pebble yet. On other default email apps (Samsung in particular) do not transmit email contents. Working on it.
- Some Pebbles are rebooting after receiving some notifications. If this happens to you regularly, use the Contact or Email support button inside the app to send us debug logs.
- iOS Caller ID. We've identified a bug that prevents a caller's name from appearing on Pebble. Will have a fix in the next iOS Pebble App version.
- Android two factor authentication - click here for instructions
- Watchfaces not loading on iOS. Fixed in the next version of the iOS app.
- Battery indicator: we're seeing reports of Pebble battery lasting from 2-7 days. It seems to be related to the variety of different Bluetooth connections on different phones. The first thing we're working on is improving the battery logging and how Pebble alerts you when the battery is almost empty. Then we'll move to improving battery life across the board.
- Android ROMs: we'll do our best, but unfortunately we cannot promise support for the entire wide world of Andriod ROMs out there. We're testing with stock devices from HTC, Samsung, Nexus (among others) and always on the stock OS.
- Pebble seems to interfere with Siri on iOS devices. Working on this problem.
Thanks for all your support, Pebblers! It's awesome to see the first users post pictures of their Pebbles in the wild. Keep the #PebbleTime coming!

Ken, where did you get the idea that all the black Pebbles will have been made before CNY? According the the right rail on this very page, there were over 40,000 people who backed at the single black watch level. Not to mention backers at other levels who chose black.
Creator Ken Cheng on February 6
I've been waiting anxiously, trying not to pay too much attention as it makes the waiting more painful!
Today, though, I read the latest Pebble email, and came to look at the update. If I read the chart correctly, about 15k black Pebbles will be made before CNY, and that soon thereafter color Pebbles will start, meaning that all the black orders will have been made. Was there ever a table of orders by color posted? I assume the graphic is cumulative both for manufacturing and shipments, so 2280 black Pebbles have shipped. How often are shipments made? Once a week, it appears. Is there a constraint in prepping for shipment after manufacturing? Will there be a rampup of shipments now? Or will shipments come in ~1k lots every week?
Thanks, and I apologize if those questions have already been answered previously.

Exactly, Ajit. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Potential fix (workaround) for all iOS issues:
Jail broken tweak!
Most Pebblers are savvy enough to install evasi0n on their pc/Mac and run the program. There is reason why ALL iOS issues cant be fixed with this. You could also enable a lot of other cool features this way. There is no excuses here guys. You have a ton of resources and fame to hire some known jail broken tweak programmers. Most of the promised features currently have bugs which is unacceptable. Start hiring now.

Isn't this clear enough, they are going to ship blacks in multi-color packs as soon as they figure out how to with the software they have. As converse to this statement, a supposition that shipments of black multi-packs will not be impacted, may be valid. Thanks, Pebble team. Appreciate opening another coding front on this account.
I have a positive feeling these days regarding Pebble, in spite of bugs & scratch issues. I remember the first iPod's, they were not too good in this regard and Apple changed their materials in the next version only. Sure, Pebble will do the same. That is the risk & the trade-off for getting 'Kickstarter Edition' engraved on the back.
Waiting anxiously for my blacks in the 10 pack.

Eric, do you ask anyone to read your updates before you post them? I think anyone reading this would have realized that is was likely to provoke a negative reaction from your backers. It's great that you provide so much information, but sometimes you provide some much detail that it seems like you're trying to hide something. I hope you're not, but you could really benefit from trying to see this from the perspective of the backer, who really only cares about when they're going to get their Pebble. Please try to be more clear.
Creator Brad Corcoran on February 6
@diron thomas
You raise a very valid point. I agree and think it would be very hard for them to give out a firm ship date for people. Too many factors at play that they would most likely miss it and people would get angry.
However, they have posted this on twitter several times:
"You could cross-reference your pledge date against Pebble's backers per day and shipping status. http://ow.ly/hsxRB"
The problem with this is that they haven't officially said exactly how their queue process works. In the Evernote and in the CES keynote they said it would be "Backer order = the earlier you pledged on Kickstarter, the sooner you get your Pebble." This has been proven to not exactly be accurate as they haven't gone into multiple orders, or color orders.
So while yes, I don't think and I don't expect them to give out a firm shipping date, I think they should give people some numbers. Some insight into how things are going. That way if someone wants to estimate where they are in the line they can. No guarantees would be given.
There are always going to be people here demanding to know when they'll get their Pebble. I think the correct answer is information. If people could get an idea of how things are progressing and how things are planned I don't think they'd be as impatient.
Creator Jeremy Krantz on February 6
I understand that costs are higher but I was really hoping that everything would be made in the USA and manufactured here - the country could have used the jobs
Creator Randa Adams on February 6
I'm not complaining about not getting mine yet, I know it'll eventually arrive, I just wanna know the order of colors they'll be producing. I think that's a pretty reasonable and easy question to answer.
Creator Daniel Batchelor on February 6
@Ryan Tivis,
Well said.
Creator diron thomas on February 6
i think they are being as transparent in the shipping process as they can be. they are not in full production and they are not producing multiple colors at this time so its almost impossible to predict when people will get their pebbles unless they are amoung the first 15k that opted for black. beyond those people its not much they can tell u because they have yet to produce anything different to tell you different than what they have told you.
Creator Calum Barnes on February 6
First of all everyone needs to chill. Your Pebble will come. I have backed lots of projects, and I can tell you Pebble is one of the good ones. They update frequently, the watches are actually made, and you will get them!
HOWEVER,
@PebbleTeam where is the SDK? We were promised the SDK before the launch...why has there been no mention and no update in the past several updates regarding the SDK? For those of us that have our Pebbles already it's a little frustrating. If it's not ready yet that's fine, but be as forthcoming in the update about the SDK as you have been so good about updating on the production process. Thanks!! Love my Pebble!
Creator Ryan Tivis on February 6
I love people who complain about people complaining lol.. don't you then in fact become that which you hate?
Look. People can be upset and voice their frustration.. that's their right and the way they feel. You can feel good and happy with delays and everything.. that's your right and how you feel. There is no right or wrong here..
Creator Raphael Salgado on February 6
I'd be lying to myself if I said I wasn't disappointed that I opted to pay more for the Arctic White version, only to find out that they haven't even been manufactured yet because of so many Jet Black orders, and the Chinese New Year is yet another roadblock placed between Pebble and the backers. I was naively and vainly waiting for that "your Pebble has shipped" email, only to find out the ordering queue has been completely uprooted.
I'm hopeful that the powers that be will continue to find ways to crank up production and shipping times without compromising on quality and reliability.
With an order date of 4/17, I initially figured I'd get mine in the second week of production, but based on the latest stats and news, I guess I shouldn't expect mine until the end of March. Hopefully by then, there will be new firmwares and iOS app updates that squashes the latest bugs.

Creator Leonidas on February 6
I'm curious about the following.. (not really important, but if I'm not playing with my new product, I'm going to come up with random questions)....
1 - how many people ordered each color?
2 - are watches expected to be shipped per day, per week, or per volume?
(for example, they've produced roughly 14,000 pebbles, but shipped roughly 2,000)
do they need to fill a container, or is there a nightly shipping?
3 - are shipping expectations sitting in a gantt chart somewhere? I would expect it to be, since gantt charts are easy to tweak and push dates around.. it would be nice to see the gantt chart showing expected creation, shipping, color, (and for the international folks) destination... if something like that exists.
4 - when can we expect to see other apps available to run on the pebble?
I think that's about it for now.
Creator Stephen Holinaty on February 6
"In order to avoid delays, if you have a requested a Black Pebble as part of a multi-Pebble reward pack we will also be trying our best to fulfill that portion of the reward separately. "
What does this mean for multi-pebble backers who ordered all of them in black? are we still SOL?
Creator Brad Corcoran on February 6
@Jeff Alberda
I don't want to start an argument on this, but I do not appreciate being told to "grow up". I have been patient and I have been polite. I am not demanding my Pebble right this instant, and I am not angry that I wasn't the first to get one. I am simply asking for some transparency in the shipping process and an official word on how 2x orders are being handled.
Creator Geof Aberhart on February 6
Okay, first up all of you crying about Chinese New Year delays, deal with it. Would you get snippy about people not working on Xmas? CNY is straight-up the biggest and most important holiday on the calendar in this part of the world, and sure as hell more important than getting a watch a week earlier. But for real, that dead flat number of international shipments is pathetic and unacceptable. There is no good reason for that, and I seriously think us international backers deserve an explanation. Although if the past year is anything to go by, that's about as likely as suffocating to death on a fart, except my farts are more communicative.
Creator Brad Corcoran on February 6
I have already raised this question in the GetPebble forum. Link is here: http://forums.getpebble.com/topics/1462
I have seen a few posts from Eric in there, but nothing recently. He's probably very busy. I would still like someone from the team to let us know what's happening with the 2x Pebble orders, even if it isn't Eric himself. It seems ridiculous that I am waiting until the end because my brother and I ordered together.
Creator Jeff Alberda on February 6
@Fish AKA Aaron Trout, no that is referring to people like me, I bought a 5 pack with 1 black, 1 orange, 1 red and 2 grey. What they are saying is that they are not going to hold on to my one black while they wait for the other colors to finish. I imagine black production will continue throughout the process and therefore, they should have a black available right when the rest of the colors are done.
Creator Jeff Alberda on February 6
Brad Corcoran Mr. 2 Black pebble backer.
There were 7157 backers on day 1. They have currently shipped 2280 watches to the USA and 420 elsewhere. So by my calculations that is at least 4457 people who backed on the first day that haven't had theirs ship yet. Grow up and get patient.
Creator Joseph E. Pegues on February 6
Very disapointing production numbers Pebble. Maybe in the future you should have a factory producing the watches in Mexico as well to avoid holiday delays of a week or more in Asia, that way production never stops. And find a way to reduce the time it takes to make one Pebble from the current two weeks because that is crazy! Cars can be built in a day!
Creator Eric Weiss on February 6
@Steven Morlock The white iPhone 4 was delayed for 10 months due to a manufacturing delay. Apple has the best supply chain and manufacturing contracts in the world, and it happens to them. There are big delays on the new iMac right now.
Creator Sean Daly on February 6
Sorry to see all the negative comments in this thread. I was among the 40,799 backers who pledged (prepaid) $115. I received my black pebble last week and so far I'm very happy with the "investment." There were few bugs when the watch first synced with my iOS but nothing a reinstall couldn't fix. These guys went from nothing to manufacturing 1,500 pebbles per day in just over a year. That is pretty amazing. Remember backers, you essentially purchased this watch at a discount, you have no equity in the company nor are you an investor. We are the guinea pigs while they work out the bugs before going to market. Pebble went above and beyond with their updates and after all the negativity, one thing is for certain, you will receive your watch. Right now, it just tells time with a very cool display and tells you when you receive a text or phone call as no apps are available, but it will be fun to see what the programmers came up with!

@Steven: What exactly about "Estimated Delivery" and the 32 updates so far walking us through the process has been hard to understand? Sometimes I read an update and it's "bummer!" sometimes "cool!" sometimes "wow, learned something new about hardware manufacturing" but backing a KS project is not the same as a transactional relationship with a retailer.

I agree that there should be a balance beteen rest of the world and USA Shipping. Donn't mean to be rude, but the US is not the center of the World! Please Pebble Team, consider a more balanced shipping scheme or you're bound to get the thing politicized...and you don't want that!
Creator Kitten Mittens on February 6

Here's a screenshot of the last thing I was desperately excited to receive after pre-paying for it, a new Retina MacBook Pro: http://i.imgur.com/puqJC.png
This is from Apple. A company with more cash on hand than most countries, an army of employees, a manufacturing, retail, and support infrastructure that has been refined, scaled, and improved for year.
I wanted to know every detail of what the different steps in my order status was. Heck, if a webcam of my order being produced was available online, I would have probably watched it! Alas, all I had from Apple was that very standard five-step pop-up.
So please, if I don't expect Apple—with all its resources—to make me a site for my MacBook Pro order like ispebbleshipping.com, why would I expect it, let alone want more detailed analytics, from ten people working out of a condo in Palo Alto?
Creator JKB on February 6
@Tom Van: thank you! That's what i'm getting at..... if all the black Pebbles are ready to ship...then that means they have a week of "free time" next week to provide detailed shipping information...or at least realistic shipping information at least to backers of the black Pebbles.

I think a lot of people outside of China or that culture can actually wrap their heads around the idea of CNY and the fact that the entire country in fact shuts down for a week. I've worked with a lot of Chinese offshore software development shops and it's something you anticipate and plan around.
So kudos to the Pebble team for mitigating the impact by finding an alternate component manufacturing source and ramping up production early so the backlog can continue to ship during the freeze.

I think Kickstarter is cool because pledging money to cool ideas and projects makes you feel kind of like a mini-Venture Capitalist, but you are not, in fact, a venture capitalist.
Too many people with time to complain on the Internet apparently think pledging to Kickstarter projects makes them investors/venture capitalists. This is not the case. You put money in a donation box. If you back the right horse, they'll be successful in what they aimed to make and will reward you for getting them off the ground. That. Is. What. Kickstarter. Is. No more, no less.

"As an investor." I didn't get any equity when I backed Pebble and signed no contract detailing that I was a shareholder at any point. Was the pledge process different for you?
When I read the Kickstarter Terms and Conditions before pledging, I saw that Kickstarter projects may actually fail to produce rewards, even if funding is successful. I had to weigh that caveat before deciding to pledge.
