About this project
Based on American classics like WIzard of Oz, On the Road, and Grapes of Wrath, plus other bits of 1960s american popular culture. Into the Dust follows the journey of Judy from the dust bowl era Kansas, to 1964 Beverly Hills. She then Travels along Route 66 back home, and along he way meets a cast of colorful characters including, biker gangs, fast food giants, hippies, drug lords, and hollywood actresses.
I have been working on a comic project titled Into the Dust for quite a few years now. I started the project with every intention of getting it done and out into the public's hands in 2 full years. After printing 2 full color issues that ran in Previews Magazine, I ran out of funds to continue printing them in mass quantities for sale. I continued working on the project, printing very small runs from places like Ka-blam.com and other print on demand places. It is currently one and a half chapters away from being done(about 36 pages), and I would love to collect all of the chapters together into a graphic novel. If I get the proper funding, I will stop working on all of my other art projects and finish the final chapter. The money will be used to print and ship the books (from Sunquest printing based out of Shanghai) http://www.sunquest.com.cn/index.htm They are by far the cheapest printer that I have come across. Funds will also be used to purchase an ISBN Number/Barcode If printed, I will solicit the book in Previews Magazine, which will get the book into comic stores and online storefronts. The ISBN number will allow the book to be purchased in bookstore chains as well.
It will take me a month or two to finish the artwork, and probably about a month to get books into my hands.

A Student of the great Scott McCloud, Jesse Rubenfeld is the artist/writer of Tool Publication’s comic series Into the Dust, a gritty realistic version of Wizard of Oz set in 1964 on Route 66. Jesse has also done artwork for international publications on topics such as nursing, performance, and magic tricks. Recently, Jesse has gotten into the habit of parodying famous works of art and other images, using familiar characters from popular culture like the Muppets, Superpets, and Nintendo characters
