Crouching pawn, hidden penny, new piece design for bluffing style chess
This video previews the new design of bluffing style chess pieces. the design makes use of the american penny! the penny adds weight to the chess pieces and makes it's better to play with.
given I advertised with the old design i wanted to take feedback on this new one. let me know what you think!

Yep, washers would work as well. I was mostly trying to figure out what size coin (or washer) would work. Thanks for all the comments and such. Looking forward to seeing the end results !

That new piece design looks good. Having a weight in it will definitely improve playability and reduce air based game disruptions.
As an alternative to, or perhaps in addition to, stating that the piece is made to hold a U.S. penny, you could specify that the piece can hold a flat washer with a 19mm(3/4") O.D.

Picking it up is not bad given the angle of the face and the spine are not that far away from parallel and the spine can be gripped well.but i will make a full set and play a few games to be sure!
As for smaller coins i think they will work, i tried using a dime and it stays in there but it rattles a little bit. I don't know what will work for Europeans, maybe little metal bolt washers? anyway the weight is optional.

I like a few things about this new design;
- Looks better from both sides, front and back.
- The weighted feature is a genuine improvement. Smaller coins will fit in there just as well.
- Has less facets and folds, and is easier to put together.
The one thing I can't tell without holding it for reals is how well it will feel to pick up and hold the piece. It's like picking up a pyramid by the top, although, this new piece design has a much slimmer top than your everyday pyramidal structure.

Hi there !
I like the new design. The only problem I can see with it: with me (and others) being a non-US-citizen (I'm Dutch), I don't have ready access to US pennies. How big are they?
You might say "use a Euro-cent, but there actually are hardly any Euro-pennies (um, cents) around, as the EU decided to almost totally get rid of the actual coin. In daily us everything gets either paid by electronic cash (all the vogue over here), or rounded to the closest 0.05 Euros.
*Google to the rescue* - Apparently, a US Cent is 19mm across. A Euro 2-cent coin would be a good fit (it's 18.75mm across, though a bit thicker than a penny), but (like the 1-cent coin) is very hard to get. *more Google* ... and the problem seems to be primarily in the Netherlands and Finland, who (according to Wikipedia, so this MUST be right) are the only countries to not have 1 and 2 Euro-cent coins in general distribution due to the rounding to the nearest Euro 0.05.
