About this project

UPDATE:

First, thanks to you, we've met our goal! We are eternally and profoundly humbled and grateful. Thank you a million times over. Really, you're great. Thank you.

Second, the donations box is still open. That $2,850 will cover our remaining studio time, but we still need to cover the costs of mastering, pressing the album and printing the sleeves. We'd have set a higher target initially, but the way Kickstarter works, we don't get anything unless we meet our goal. Frankly, we weren't sure we'd be able to raise a few thousand bucks and didn't want to set a target we didn't think we'd hit. But, because of you, hit it we did. So let's keep going. We can still use your help.

Thanks again,
Frankenpine

Frankenpine, a mostly acoustic band whose music borrows from bluegrass, roots, country, folk, string band, old-time and lots else, is recording its first full-length album, which we're calling "The Crooked Mountain." It'll be full of banjo, fiddle, accordion, guitars, bass, mandolin and some beautiful singing.

With the exception of one radically re-worked old spiritual, all our songs are original. We—and that's Kim and Matthew Chase, Liz Bisbee, Ned P. Rauch, Andy Mullen and Colin DeHond—are all committed to making a top-shelf album, which means we've booked time at a well-equipped studio, in Williamsburg, and have hired a producer—a friend and music biz veteran from up in the Adirondacks—to steer the ship, as it were.

Over a few weekends this summer, we've recorded parts of eight songs. So far, so good. But we've still got a lot of work to do. The studio's expensive ($500 a day). Once the songs are recorded, we'll be facing steep costs for mastering, pressing and printing. Many of you have already been astoundingly generous—coming to shows, filling the tip jar, clapping even when we screw up. Thank you. We're now asking you for a bit more help and support. If you dig Frankenpine and have some scratch to spare, we'd appreciate your sending it our way. We've got all sorts great prizes and rewards to send you as thank-you gifts. And even if all you do is read this and say, "Good luck, guys," we're grateful.

For your gift of $5, we'll give you a list of knee-slapping banjo jokes with which you can amuse your friends and poke fun (in a good way) at your favorite neighborhood banjo player.

15 Backers

For $25, we'll give you the jokes, the trivia and the album and we'll dedicate a song to you (or on your behalf to someone else) at an upcoming gig.

21 Backers

Fifty bucks gets you the banjo jokes, the Adirondack trivia, a copy of "The Crooked Mountain," a song dedication and your own Frankenpine t-shirt.

Pledge $150 or more

If you give us $150, we'll give you all the stuff mentioned above, including a copy of the album and a t-shirt, plus an original Frankenpine poster, signed by the band, and three recipes from our resident chef and current student at the Culinary Institute of America, Andrew Chase. Not only that, we'll even learn a song of your choosing (or try to) and play it for you at a future gig.

Pledge $500 or more

0 Backers

OK, for $500 we'll come over and play at your house for an hour (provided you live somewhere reasonably close to New York City). Throw a party in your back yard and we'll be the entertainment. We won't bring balloon animals or clowns, but we will bring you a t-shirt, a signed poster and a copy of the album, "The Crooked Mountain."

Pledge $1,300 or more

0 Backers • Limited Reward (2 of 2 remaining)

Consider this the Platinum Pine gift level. For a donation of $1,300, we'll do anything you want. Well, not quite, but we'll do this: Come to your house (or destination of your choosing) with our chef, Andrew Chase, in tow and play for you and cook a delicious dinner for you and 11 of your closest friends. It will be a night to remember. What's more, we'll give you a copy of the album, a t-shirt and a signed poster. AND, we'll sing your praises—literally—at an upcoming gig.
