SPRAYPAINT will be a provocative documentary film that engages viewers by allowing them to witness first hand the unique techniques of renowned spraypaint artist, Chor Boogie. As one of the world's premier urban artists, Chor Boogie's characters and style innovations are legendary, his indefatigable work ethic is an inspiration, and his commitment to spreading a spiritual message in his art is truly admirable. While many urban artists focus on realistic cityscapes, the culture that surrounds them, or typical graffiti letters- Chor Boogie stands out amongst the crowd. He describes his work as a "melodic symphony" and a " therapeutic flow" of energy.
CHOR BOOGIE makes spray cans do magical things. His art is not easily categorized. It is certainly not graffiti- and it is more 'fine art' than 'urban art'. He has been making art with spray paint for nearly two decades, and has painted murals globally. He has been commissioned to make portraits for Jay-Z, Rage Against the Machine, Hugh Hefner, and Old Dirty Bastard, painted a mural for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, been featured on MTV Arabia, and has traveled extensively for his art career (to places such as Dubai, Brazil, Tijuana, and Australia).
His dynamic range of artistic styles can translate to soulful images, carefully shaded portraits, an engaging world of color therapy and beautifully composed geometric landscapes that, upon seeing, many viewers have described as a "cosmic" experience.
SPRAYPAINT will examine the forces that have made his legal murals internationally famous. The film will take an up-close look at the effect on the human mind of his original color therapy technique and explore his past life of addiction that lead him to seek healing through art. Viewers will get an inside-look at his unique techniques and the uplifting spiritual healing he has brought to a worldwide fan base. Some of the talented artists we will include are: Pose2, Apex, Neon, and Joshua Mayes. Instead of a biography or typical documentary on the ’street art scene’, the film will take a visionary filmmaking approach that experiments as much with style and substance as Chor does in his own work. Prepare for a cinematic mind expansion!
We have collected over 40 hours of footage thus far in cities around the world.
In order to complete the shooting (i.e. production) phase on this documentary feature, we need to raise funds for equipment and travel-related costs. Our goal for this round of funding is $5,000. However, we will certainly put any money raised above $5k to good use.
100% of funds raised will go towards the following:
-High quality microphones
-HD Tape stock
-External hard drives to backup original HD video
-Cost of airplane tickets for crew members
-Car rental, food, lodging and in-town transportation when traveling outside the SF Bay Area
