A bro-mantic comedy about rediscovering independence after an unexpected "annulment of friendship".
WHAT IS OUR PROJECT?
The Roommates is a short bro-mantic comedy about two beer-guzzling roommates, David and Nathan. Fed up with his roommate, and with their lease coming to an end, David decides to "break up" with Nathan and venture to the west-side of town, alone. This decision is one that he soon regrets as he begins interviewing potential roommates that are far worse than what he had. Nathan quickly "rebounds" when he meets Vincento, a worldly European eccentric with a flair for free jazz and fine wine. David soon learns that one doesn't realize what they have until it is gone. Will David be able to rekindle their friendship, or is it damaged beyond repair?
WHAT'S THE BIG PICTURE?
The Roommates is the second in a series of short films centered around a central theme. Dan and Mark's previous film, shot over the summer, entitled John and the Scarf, is a hip comedy about the tangled web of casual-romantic relationships. The Roommates digs a little deeper and is focused on the dynamics of modern friendships. Both of these styles are to be synthesized in a feature length screenplay entitled Lying, Cheating, Drunken Bastards which is currently in development. Dan and Mark hope to use a successful festival run for both The Roommates and John and the Scarf to aid in procuring funds to develop and produce Lying, Cheating, Drunken Bastards. But we can't do it without your help!
WHAT IS KICKSTARTER?
Kickstarter.com is way for you to support emerging artists by pledging financial contributions towards the production of various projects; in our case it is a short film comedy. You can pledge anything from $1 to the entire budget of the film, and you will be rewarded with the gratitude of the filmmakers as well as cool stuff. Look to the right to see what we offer. Thank You in advance!
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?
Filmmaking is expensive, the cast and crew have donated their time, but the various odds and ends required to run a successful set add up quickly.
Your pledges will help cover the following:
-Food to feed the cast and crew during production.
-Props, set-dressing, make-up, and wardrobe.
-Consumables (batteries, bounce card, etc.)
-Pesky licensing and location fees.
WHY SHOULD I HELP FUND THIS PROJECT?
This is a Cleveland project in every sense. Dan and Mark are native Clevelanders; they grew up, studied, and nearly died a couple times in Cleveland. The film is cast with Cleveland actors. Music will be provided by, and even performed in a scene by, local musicians. Cleveland native visual artists and painters will loan paintings and set dressing to give the film a unique look. It has been a long-held dream of the filmmakers to not only produce a hysterically funny film, but to support the growth of the Cleveland art scene by incorporating as many facets of the local arts community as possible.
