SFS is an innovative use of public space for art. Only the most experimental artist applied, only the most daring invited.
The catalyst for the Standard for Spring is to provide a platform and equal opportunity for artists to show publicly in a setting that is professional and challenging. The Standard for Spring will be making some of the most innovative uses of public space to date for performance art and video. We will accomplish this by using a hotel on the Highline as a hub for reverse window projection, live streaming, and an internet video screening of all the works shown. Additionally a discrete, orchestrated walking tour through the Meatpacking/ Chelsea area will feature live performance art and video. The artists and locations will be updated in real time by twitter reporter, artist Lisa "Lovemonster" Conrad and the entire event will be documented by Hey Mr Jason Photography. By helping us reach our fundraising goals, you will be graciously invited to get the first glance of Jason Russo’s photos of SFS at our reception a roof top party Saturday, July 28th!
The wonderful thing about public art intervention is that it is spontaneous yet allows artist to reach a broad audience. However, all of the steps to run an exhibition program that consists of curatorial, coordination, promotions, materials and documentation are still required. That's why we need your help, we can't fund this on our own.
In addition to production costs SFS seeks to provide each performance artist with a $70.00 honorarium.
So we are passing the hat and asking you help foster a roster of artists that have shown a proven commitment and excellence to their craft for the price of a movie ticket. Why support an over inflated industry like Hollywood when we should be recognizing the tri-state areas most creative.
Please help us meet our fundraising goal and join us for the Standard For Spring on May 19th and the reception for some rooftop films on July 28.
If you are unable to attend SFS please visit us at theStandardForSpring.blogspot.com to see NJ artist Andrew Demirjian's live broadcast from SUMU artist residency in Finland, live up to the minute twitter feed and all the video projects included in the show.
By supporting this project you are acknowledging that art and artists have a place in the world to boldly experiment outside of the gallery system and that artistic experiences and creative expression are a vital tool for cultural enrichment.
Artists include: Brian Cavanaugh, Ahmet Civelek, Andrew Demirjian and James Proctor, Go! Pushpops, Diane Tenerelli-June, Scott Kildall, Lucie Kim and Felix von der Weppen, Timothy McMurray and Jacqueline Weaver, Kamil Nawratil, The New Sound Karaoke, M.W. Nolden, Tara Raye Russo, Jessica Segall, Allison Schlegel, Nyugen Smith and David Tallis
