Acorn Productions’ Maine Playwrights Festival, now in its 11th year, is Maine’s premier incubator for new plays. The festival is open to all playwrights, regardless of experience, and supports the work of over 50 local theater artists every year. Over the course of the Festival’s first 10 years, we have produced over 100 scripts by Maine-based playwrights, many of which have gone on to be produced in other states, including two which were featured in festivals in New York City. This year's festival includes fully-produced performances of short plays, an evening of 2-minute plays in multiple interpretations we're calling "Take Two", and the 24-hour play festival, in which festival participants write, rehearse and perform plays in a single 24-hr period.

Funds raised in this Kickstarter campaign will be used to defray a portion of the cost to produce the festival. Individual contributions are an important part of the funding package, allowing us to continue providing this opportunity for playwrights to see their work fully realized and for audiences to hear local voices.

This year's festival is well underway. The plays have been selected, the theater has been booked, the cast has been chosen and rehearsals have begun. Led by Acorn's Producing Director Michael Levine, the production team includes directors Michael Levine, Laura Graham, Stephanie Ross, Shawna Houston, and Harlan Baker, and production manager Emily Dixon. 20 plays by 18 playwrights will be performed by an ensemble of 21 actors...all committed to bringing these plays to life on the St. Lawrence Arts Center stage.
