About this project

Peace and Love!

ABOUT THE FILM
Busted on Brigham Lane has been in my bones for quite some time now. I am very interested in exploring familial relationships and relationships between siblings. I am the eldest of five children and over the years my perception of my parents has taken on many different transformations. Through this film I want to explore what happens when a child places his/her parent on a pedestal and the parent in turn falls from grace due to their own weaknesses and vices. What does this do to someone? How does one regain a healthy relationship after experiencing this? How do familial relationships change when children mature and move into adulthood and independence? How do families cope with alcohol abuse? These are all questions I seek to explore in the making of his film.

OUR PLANS
We are trying to raise funds to shoot Busted on Brigham Lane in its entirety. I am an MFA Directing student at Columbia University and I would like to shoot this film to add another piece of work to my repertoire, expose great actors, and submit the film to several festivals. Over the course of the past 4 months we have work shopped the script and shot several exercises of the project. I am finally at the point where I feel confident about the material and excited about the caliber of work that we are doing that I am ready to shoot the film in its entirety.

If we reach our goal, we will shoot in February/March in the TriState area over the course of five days.

WHERE DOES THE FUNDING GO?
We need money for our locations in the TriState area, craft services, transportation, insurance fees, rental of equipment i.e. lenses, rigs for the camera, expendables, set designer, sound equipment/sound person, stunt coordinator, props, picture cars, wardrobe, composer, color corrector, child wrangler, picture editor, and sound designer.

A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to a charity that helps to treat alcoholism within families at the end of the campaign.

This is a personal passion project for me and I would love to see it to fruition with your help!

Talibah Lateefah Newman is a filmmaker and writer who is currently attending Columbia University’s MFA program at the School of The Arts. Her roots are deeply planted in Dallas, Texas. Talibah is the eldest of five children and discovered her passion of filmmaking through shooting short films and music videos with her family at the tender age of 11. While at Columbia, Talibah has sought to tell stories of familial relationships, precocious children, single character journeys into recreating identity, the complicated mosaic of religion and faith, and redefining race. Her films tackle the inner workings of family units as she seeks to discover the essence of what makes familial love last. Ms. Newman seeks to tell the stories of the invisible people and inaudible voices in her community and marginalized communities abroad. Through film, Talibah seeks to spread hope and healing to those who need it the most. Alterations, is Talibah’s most recent project at Columbia University and will be playing in festivals in 2011.
