Wanted to clue you in on all the great stuff that’s happening -- which is a LOT!
First off, we’re eager to hit $200,000 and are adding some cool new rewards, including SPACE COMMAND jackets, an opportunity to sit in on the first table read of the script with our actors – and, for one lucky backer, my own original copy of the first SPACE COMMAND script, marked up with my handwritten notes!
During the conference call with our team today, ace PR whiz Mike Bawden pointed out that we’re not just financing a film – we’re building an entire science fiction franchise. Indeed we are!
As you know, we’re laying out four SPACE COMMAND movies to start. The DVDs you’ll be getting include the first full-length movie, and when we hit the $500K mark we’ll be able to include the second movie as well.
Beyond this, Doug Drexler and I have been meeting to plot out additional half-hour SPACE COMMAND episodes (Doug and I both love half-hour dramatic TV episodes, as THE TWILIGHT ZONE COMPANION can attest) under the umbrella title “How the Solar System Was Won.”
These are set early in our future history chronology and we’ve been laying out stories that will blow you away. In fact, we’re already designing many of those visual elements.
Once we hit $300,000 that will give us enough leeway to shoot the first of these and include it in the DVD. More about that soon.
At the same time, we’re busy at work on the SPECIAL FREE THANK-YOU GIFT for every backer who has pledged to us. We can’t wait to send it to you!
More Big News is that San Diego Comic Con has announced our SPACE COMMAND panel for Friday June 13th, 7:30-8:30 PM in rooms 5AB.
Many of our SPACE COMMAND team will be there, including myself, Doug Drexler, Neil Johnson, Iain McCaig, David Raiklen, Justin Massion, Katharine McEwan, Christina Moses, a dear friend from Kickstarter, and other stars and surprises. Amber Benson’s hoping to make an appearance, PLUS we’ll be premiering NEW EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE! Be there or be square!
Beyond this, we’ll be holding a SIGNING the next day at the Geekscape booth with our creative team (including Iain McCaig) that going to be a must-attend event!
I’m also on several other panels, including one Thursday on Self Publishing – which includes what we’re doing with our Kickstarter Campaign!
Then of course on the night of July 14th will be holding a special COUNTDOWN TO THE END OF THE CAMPAIGN PARTY at Comic-Con, which you’re all invited to attend. We’re even working to have a video up-link for our friends around the world!
On the publicity front, SPACE COMMAND has been very busy. In the last 24 hours, we’ve been in the pages of Daily Variety and the New York Post, among others, and I’ve been doing numerous interviews, including one today at the Writers Guild Conference Room with the FILM COURAGE website that was great fun (note my Saturn Award, which I brought to spice up an otherwise dull room…)
I’m hearing great words of support from the Hollywood community. Brannon Braga (of STAR TREK – TNG, ENTERPRISE, 24 and TERRA NOVA) asked how he can pledge and many others are following suit. It means so much to have such encouragement!
I also want to give a shout-out to Slashdot, which has been so helpful to us. I love you Slashdot! While my friends in Hollywood are endlessly sitting at home waiting for the moguls to call them greenlighting their projects (I don't have the heart to tell them Louis B. Mayer is dead), with your help and the help of our wonderful Kickstarter backers we're making SPACE COMMAND exactly the way we want it – every dollar goes directly to making the dream come true!
On our website www.pledgespacecommand.com we’re adding many of these media interviews we’ve been doing -- you can listen to them and watch a number of cool videos, plus read about our higher reward levels. Be sure to check it out.
By the way, if you’re in the L.A. area, I’m on a Writers Guild panel Saturday afternoon talking about how to shoot your spec script (I’ll be singing the praises of Kickstarter). You can find out about it by clicking through to the Writer Guild Foundation at wga.org
Then the following Saturday – June 30th – Elaine and I are teaching a class in how to build a Kickstarter campaign, with many of our team in attendance to lend their expertise.
Right now, Doug Drexler’s designing and also supervising a team of Andy Probert and other effects geniuses, while Iain McCaig is busy at work too (along with the wonderful Diego). Sets, costumes, aliens, robots, spaceships and more are being actively designed, shots are being rendered, sets built, actors in talks with us about the characters they’ll be playing. And I’m busy outlining and writing scripts.
Plus my baby brother Shaun Zicree, who makes prop weapons and other cool things, is aboard the team too! So with Elaine and Shaun by my side, it’s quite the family affair!
We’re also finishing a number of videos. Here’s Christina Moses – spectacular as George Takei’s daughter in “World Enough and Time,” talking about that experience and her new role in SPACE COMMAND:
Other videos posting soon include:
Where I tell you more about our SPACE COMMAND characters and storyline.
Iain McCaig and me talking with Katharine McEwan about her role as Odara T’Lynn.
Iain and me talking about working together, and this incredible project.
That’s all for now – it’s quite a ride!
All good thoughts your way,
